If they are moving to a specific casino's property, it'll be interesting to see if that casino has a sportsbook and if they put any rules in place about WNBA gambling on site. |
When the Sun moved to Mohegan one of the conditions was that they not have a sportsbook

I heard the Sun were objecting to a team being in a city known for gambling and casinos.

Was there any talk that the Stars were in trouble? I thought of them as a solid franchise. |
If anything was an indication id say those inflated attendance #'s caught up too them. I remember watching them play with probably about 100 fans in the stands and they reported 4,000. It even became sort of a game here about the actual attendance. Although that has been done for multiple teams , just hope there fate does not end like San Antonio .

Peter Holt retired and gave control of the teams to his wife. She's less interested in owning sports teams, so she sold the Stars and will likely do the same to the Spurs. It's similar to what happened in Detroit after Bill Davidson passed away.

ESPN has reported that the relocation is awaiting approval from the NBA & WNBA and the move will be finalized.

Shooting stars? Heck they could have kept silver stars. But yeah, stars could easily be kept as is.
I'm just happy they're not folding.
And I think Las Vegas has the potential to be a draw for visitors. It will be interesting to see if residents can get behind it. For the W's sake, I hope it works out.

Wonder if this sale has been in the works for a long time and had something to do with Hughes departure and maybe VJ's one year contract.Wonder if the Spurs organization will unload some of their other teams also. Vegas seems like a bad location in my opinion.

Maybe not this sale in particular, but I'd bet they've been looking to sell for a while.

After the progression towards group nouns and abstract terms like Sky and Dream, I figure they may just dump the idea of an independent nickname entirely at this point. I present to you: the Las VegAss. |

If they're smart, they'll keep the silver & black and call themselves the Las Vegas Raiders. Should be good for merchandise sales, if nothing else.

Members of the Las Vegas-based Maloof family, which previously owned the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings of the NBA, told the Review-Journal on Thursday they were not involved in the Stars sale.
A UNLV spokesperson told the RJ that the university has not been approached about the Thomas & Mack Center becoming the home to a WNBA team, adding that it is always open to evaluating opportunities. The T&M has hosted the NBA Summer League since 2004.
It is unclear where the team would play. Possible venues include T-Mobile Arena, the MGM Grand Garden, the Thomas & Mack Center and Orleans Arena.

There are others too, and I'm hearing there is no question on the financial stability of the possible owners.

If anything, this shows the importance of Private non-NBA ownership. |
Why? We've had independent owners lose interest or decide they can't take the losses any more as well. Both types can turn bad. |

It's been much less common among independent teams. Really, all the independent ownership problems have a common root: Donna O and her lack of due diligence.

I think they should just keep Stars. Las Vegas Stars has a nice ring and makes sense with the new location. I could also see las Vegas Lucky Stars.
If there is a name change it might have to do with the ownership in the same way The Conn Sun are named after the casino.
My other option would be Las Vegas Jackpot.
or The Las Vegas Nomi Malones.

Does Kobe Bryant have any connection to Vegas. Or any other former NBA guys who speak well of the Women's game.
I could see Kobe as a partner in the venture just a guess.
