http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/silver_stars/article/Stars-sale-imminent-12274245.php

Sale of the WNBA’s Stars is “imminent” and the team will relocate to another city, a source close to the situation told the San Antonio Express-News.

The Spurs currently own the team. Tom James, Spurs Sports and Entertainment senior director of communications, declined to comment.

Is this the reason behind Dan Hughes announcing his retirement in 2016 ?

So Do Vicky & Ruth Remain or does new management clean house? I wonder why Joe Lacob didn't jump all over this opportunity?

It's probably going down like the Sparks near folding did...they're scrambling to find another Magic Johnson to take this franchise off San Antonio's hands.

Sad

San Antonio fans deserved better.

(Well. Every relocated team's fans deserve better. But still.)

Wherever they end up, I hope they're well taken care of, loved and cherished by ownership, and find a fantastic fan base.

The distance was longer than I thought when I started this thought, but Dallas fans, take good care of your San Antonio brethren and sistren, all right?

I will always vividly remember the day when my father came home from work and told me that my beloved Brooklyn Dodgers were leaving town. So whenever I read of a sports franchise folding or moving, I feel sad for the local fans who loved and supported their team.

I gotta talk to my friend Loretta tomorrow. She moved from Salt Lake City to San Antonio the last time the franchise moved. Dunno how she'll feel about Vegas.

Damn. I'm gutted for the Stars fans. I remember the day the Sonics and the Storm were sold and we thought we were going to lose the Storm.

Is Vegas a big WBB market?

Is it a big sports market in general?

Really thought the Spurs were fully committed to this team. Guess not. And Las Vegas? Curious who the potential buyer is?

If the team is actually being sold, and not "OMG we have to find someone to take over quick!" then spinning it will be easy

From handling much bigger deals than this for much of my career, I learned long ago that no deal is done until it's all signed, closed and fully approved.

The article makes it sound like they haven't even identified a solid buyer, much less made a deal.

And we know this has been going on for over a month already, and yet the best anyone can say is

"In a news release, the WNBA acknowledged the impending sale but stopped there.
“Negotiations with a potential buyer of the Stars team are ongoing,” WNBA spokesperson Dina Skokos said. “Once those discussions are concluded, we will provide additional information.”
The source could not say where the Stars’ new home would be."

I'd say your "scrambling to find a buyer to avoid a shutdown" may be closer to reality.

I suspect it's more likely the latter...Did the Mohegan people actually pay for the Miracle, or was it more of a "take over the payments" deal?

Sorry to hear this news Sad
(Also kind of sorry to hear that Vegas is a likely destination. It doesn't seem that compatible with WNBA fans in the stands to me, but obviously I'd be happy to be wrong about that)
