Odds for the Finals:

Minnesota -160
Los Angeles +140

For the first game:

Minnesota 5 Los Angeles 157

I am solidly on the Lynx, both for the series and for game 1. These have been the two best teams all year long, and with Lindsay Whalen controlling the offense I believe the Lynx are better. I expect a competitive series where the refs will unfortunately have too much influence, but in the end I expect Minnesota will win in either 4 or 5, and while I will not play the total in game 1, I expect defense will rule as we get deeper into the series.

So far my record is 6-5 for the playoffs.

Odds for game 2:

Minnesota 6 Los Angeles 159

I'll stick with the Lynx for game 2, hoping they will start playing at the opening tip, and I will take the under.

Edit: Just saw the CP shoot-around ankle roll. My LA bet is removed.

Odds for game 3:

Los Angeles 3 Minnesota 155

Can't pick a side for tonight's game, but even with the line adjustment I still like the under.

Odds for game 4:

Los Angeles 3 Minnesota 152

With game 3 going under I am just above water in the playoffs at 8-7. I will take Minnesota to force a fifth game. As for the total, I still lean to the under, but given the 7 point adjustment since game 2 I won't make a play on the total.

The early odds for game 5 have come out. Minnesota has been installed as a 4.5 point favorite, and as -200 (LA +175) to win the game. That means that the odds makers give Minnesota a roughly 65% chance of winning. The total is posted at 152.

My guess is that the line will come down slightly, perhaps to 3.5, and the total will go lower if it moves at all. I will make my pick Wednesday morning based on the line at that time.

And now a word on the shootings in my home state, We have had too many of these events like this. I find it abhorrent in any form, but I also am troubled that the reporting of this event seems to stay away from the term "terrorism," presumably because he is a white American. This is terrorism, plain and simple. It is also one more example of the problem with guns in this country. I know that the NRA always says that when an event like this it is not the time to make a political statement, but I can say two things at once. First, I feel terrible for all the dead and injured as well as their friends and family, as well as all the performers and fans in attendance whose lives have been affected by this tragedy. Second, this is the time to finally get meaningful gun control, do away with the "gun show" loophole, increase vigilance on checks for gun sales and licensing and better mental health checks and coordination with law enforcement to ensure keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them . We have seen that it doesn't matter whether you are at a school (Newtown, Columbine), a University (Virginia Tech), a club (Orlando), a concert (Las Vegas), or a social services center (San Bernardino). Mass shootings are all too common, and while each particular event has some different facts, one fact is always present - guns. Let's do something now so we have fewer of these events going forward.

Time for the final game of the season

Minnesota 4.5 Los Angeles 154

The line didn't move down as I had suspected it would, and the total actually moved up 2 points. The move is entirely in anticipation of potential fouling at the end of the game as the first half total has stayed at 75. I have all along believed that the Lynx would win the series but I am uncomfortable laying this many points. I am also concerned about the potential end of game scoring, and even the possibility of overtime, but since this is the final game I have to make a play so I will take the under, hoping for a close game that the Lynx pull out at the end.

LA +4.5

I think the home team will prevail.

Hoping for a buzzer-beater win.

Oh well.

Minne's mini collapse in the closing minute resuscitated my dead bet. Smile

Sims then hoisted that idiotic 3 from the corner to seal my fate. Mad

Glad the home team won but wish it was a few points closer.

0-1, final season total of 35-22-1. Cool

I finished with a loss on the total so that dropped me to 9-8 in the playoffs, and 90-72 overall, 55.6%. While it is not what I was hoping for at the end of June, it is not too bad considering that I made 163 plays on 219 games.

Huskies fan, you had a great year, and you seemed to get hot just as I got cold.

Now if only the books would put up lines on the college games. I will have to be content with football, hockey and the mens basketball until the NCAA tournament in March.
