No Yvonne Turner? Booooooooo

Seriously though, rough year for this honor. Not many good options for that 5th spot.

Voting tends to lean against 'veteran' rookies in these things if it's close enough for debate, which would've counted against both her and Whitcomb. After the first two or three it was a pretty weak bunch to choose from.

I think that's generous to whoever you've got in fourth.

Id remove KD , she had maybe 2 or 3 memorable games in which she really made and impact. Why SWK is on here blows my mind . Yvonne Turner most definitely should have been listed here along with Grievance For sure !

I don't see anyone better. SWK is more questionable than Plum.

I think the fact that SWK and Plum both started games put them here. Why Davis is here is questionable but I guess politically correct. The problem is who is more deserving. We had a lot of lesser less amongst rookies this year. I did think Turner deserved to be on the team though.

It's not that she got on, it's that she got on UNANIMOUSLY. I think her and 2 others are beneficiaries of an extremely weak class. 3 of these wouldn't have even sniffed an ART in almost any other year.

Quote:
Davis led rookies in three-point field goal percentage (42.9) and ranked fourth in scoring (6.1 ppg) after being selected by Dallas with the 10th pick in the 2017 draft. She scored 20 points against the Phoenix in her WNBA debut on May 14 and posted a career-high 23 points against the Chicago Sky on July 16. Davis joined Gray, her college teammate at South Carolina, in helping the Wings earn the seventh seed in the WNBA Playoffs 2017 presented by Verizon.

Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, drafted with the sixth pick in 2017, helped the Mystics reach the playoffs as the sixth seed. She scored at least 13 points in three straight games from Aug. 12-18 – three of her eight starts in 2017. For the season, Walker-Kimbrough averaged 4.4 points in 12.5 minutes and ranked third among rookies in free-throw percentage (85.4).

It just comes down to playing time and lack of alternatives. No one else played more than 12-15mpg, or scored more than 4-6ppg. Plum got on the court enough to rack up a few counting stats, so she gets in. Otherwse you're leaving her out to add a Whitcomb, Talbot, Turner or whatever. I don't think Davis did much to deserve to be there either, but I don't see any real 'snubs'.

It's that way in many years. Few people consider making the All Rookie team to be a huge accomplishment.

I'd have Whitcomb over SWK, but it's really minimal

Plum was a long way from getting left off. She was a clear number 3 on this list.

Davis, Whitcomb, SWK, Turner, . . . .who cares. They're all charity cases for this award.

And let's see what kind of season any of these rookies have against a stronger 2018 class.

^^^ Is that what people think "politically correct" means in 2017?

I'd say the right players were named, although, like somebody said, it's really meaningless.

Sykes' counting stats are unlikely to improve next year, doubt she's in the running.

With Angel back she will have a good chance to win 6th player of the year though
