It'd be a very nice publicity move - and a very cheap one in the scheme of things - for the new Houston Rockets owner to bring back the Comets.

I thought the same thing. $2.2 billion for the Rockets. Just add another $10 million to revive the Comets.

And anyone with just a bit of marketing ability (hi there) could get a team in a city like Houston turning over a profit quite soon. For the sake of argument, using a 36-game schedule, 18 home games--Getting 180,000 folks in the door should be easy. Drawing 10,000 a game should be the baseline....of course none of the teams in the league seem to give a shit enough to even get to this benchmark, the marketing folks tend to be too busy trying to get "promoted" to an NBA team.

Why can't Dallas and SA get 10k per game? Not to mention Atlanta and about 5-6 other WNBA teams?

The arena Dallas plays in only holds 7,200; so it just can't happen. San Antonio used to draw good crowds until their team started to suck badly. In 2011, the [Silver] Stars drew nearly 9,000 a game. And that was a legit 9,000 per game.

So how would marketing essentially double attendance in the league?

What specific marketing campaigns do you feel could have that kind of impact, and why haven't they been tried before?

To start anything off, the LGBT communities in league cities MUST feel like the team wants them to be a part of the audience, acknowledge the mistakes of Donna and recognize the need of them.

Teams can't go dark after the season is over. Outreach to local schools, colleges and universities in January through the start of the season is required. It would be nice if the league would help in getting the schedule out early. MLB will have it's schedule out before Thanksgiving for an April start, just en example.

Commercials for the team/upcoming games need to be put on the air during non-game times. The ONLY commercials that should EVER play during the game is previewing the next game, NOT promotional ones. Waste of money trying to egg people on to watch the game, while they are watching the game. Day-time shows (soaps, talk shows and game shows) should be the focus...lots of eyeballs there.

Team prevalent sponsoring of local events/youth teams.

There are some other things to do as well.

As for why they haven't been tried before? Dunno, go ask the teams as I don't currently (unfortunately) work for one.

Getting the league up to 10K per game will be hard to do if one team(Mystics) is playing in a 4,200 seat arena & another is playing in a 7,200 seat arena(Wings).

My ideal situation for the league is to get up to 16 teams and play a 44-game schedule from May-September. All play-off games would be in October(first round a best-of-3, semis & finals are a best-of-5). Each team plays everyone 3 times except for one team they only play twice. Average salary is near 100k with top players making near 200k. This is all a pipe dream that's still 10 years away, but it's my dream for the league.

--Mystics play in Capital One Arena---it has a capacity of 20,356
--Dallas is an issue as it only holds 7,000----they should be selling that place out every game then...forcing the owners to look for a bigger building to play in.
--Atlanta plays at Georgia Tech, 8,600--same as Dallas but after the renovations at Phillips, 19,049
Connecticut---9323

Everyone else plays in arenas that can hold at least 10K.

Mystics start playing in that 4,200 arena starting in 2019.

The 36 game schedule also works great for 14 teams (or 16, if you don't mind spreading a little thinner), and can be made to work for 15 with some effort.

Any new info that prompted you to posit expansion again at this point in time?
