Well, at least we don't have to worry about Glory halfheartedly punching people.

Her punches seem pretty ineffective but her flailing and elbows are pretty deadly. So yeah, NY can feel better that Tina is not as likely to be debilitated 'accidently'.

Good thing for Gray that balloting was supposed to be in before the start of this game...

I think in a few years well see this playoff format eliminated. The first round will be a best-of-3(#1 vs. #8, etc.) and the semis & finals remain a best-of-5.

Disappointed in Diggins. Expected more from her in a big game like this.

I would have actually been surprised if Diggins had a big game. Not good in elimination games, going all the way back to ncaas. I can understand her not getting good looks, but wide open stuff? no.

Even though Powers had a good spurt offensively, her ballhogging hurts the team in other ways... when her shots aren't falling, it's one and done down the floor. That can wear your teammates out.

There aren't enough teams in the WNBA for this format, IYAM. I would do away with the single-elimination, and just go with the six best records. Give the top two seeds a bye (instead of a double-bye), and go best-of-three in the first round between the other four teams; re-seed for the semis.

Yup. Fred needs to go. Dallas has enough talent now. Time to fire him and get a competent coach now that the talent is there.

Dream can hire Fred and Wings can hire Cooper.

I started this campaign the day Coop got the can. Just nervous that it could possibly effect Cambages status. Once again Fred & Cambage go way back if that's saying anything at all.

We were amused to see Glory fussing over her elbow after one of the times she managed her usual incidental contact - that poor lady has those mean players hurting her elbow with their noses.

We had no idea how no flagrants were called during that game - two chin locks? punches to the neck?

Random thoughts:

1) The reason the first round is one game can be seen by looking at the stands. People don't pay to see mediocre teams in postseason, and never have in WNBA history. When people start buying tickets, then and only then will we see best of three.

2) Washington point guards were 4-21 from the field, had zero assists and five turnovers, and the Mystics still won.

3) SDS isn't that difficult to guard in the halfcourt, it doesn't appear. She's heavy to the left, and isn't blazingly quick. With time to prepare, defenses can take her strengths away, it seems.

4) The second T on Powers looked shaky, but here's the thing: That ref was three feet away from the play, in perfect position. She clearly saw something, and by the way, the left hand doesn't automatically go down when you shoot a layup with your right hand. In fact, it usually stays up, as it's the guide hand during the shot.

5) Glory Johnson alternated between unstoppable and invisible, which is sort of a snapshot of her career. She can be great, and then not so much.

6) I don't put that much into one-game plus/minus, but Allisha Gray was -24 in 16 minutes, and that's a pretty big number to ignore.

I've been critical of Diggins-Smith myself at times, but Washington had all of two days to prepare for this game. Teams often have significantly longer between regular season games. This isn't a seven-game playoff series where someone like Kyle Lowry gets shut down once gameplans are set for him. She just had one pretty poor game (when the defense was tilted towards her most of the night).
