Swoopes was 20 years ago. If you need to go back 20 years to find a good example, it sort of manifests how rare it is.

Bobbit had the good fortune to play with Candace Parker, but she wasn't an All American or anything herself.

In the 20 year range, Yolanda Griffith and Saudia Roundtree were also JUCO's.

Alberta Auguste was another JUCO who played on that same team with Bobbitt and Parker, and was drafted by the WNBA. Amber Holt was drafted that same year too. Markeisha Gatling was a JUCO. If you look around, you can find a few who made it to, but didn't last in, the WNBA.

Griffith and Roundtree were even longer ago than Swoopes.

And the question was "How many JC stars have turned into true stars at the next level." Not "Name anybody who began at a Juco."

Griffith actually graduated the same year Swoopes did. Would have been a tough pick at #1 if the WNBA had existed at the time.

Both Swoopes and Griffith were Power 5 recruits who then went to a JC -- and that might have been true of Roundtree as well.

So it's not as if they were undiscovered or undeveloped talents who found their games at a JC. And let's not forget Ashley Fields, who was drafted in the first round after only playing JC ball ... she's probably a more representative story.

Taj...can't remember if it was Juco or DIII but the idea is the same.

Was that Ashley Shields? ...and she didn't last too long, anyways, did she?

Yep. St. Edwards. Taj must be The Best Example of a player NOT out of P5 conferences to have extreme success.

Excluding foreign players and UConn grads, maybe. Becky Hammon and Elena Delle Donne also have cases.

Though neither attended a JC (just for the record) ...

If one has to cherry pick examples to bolster expectations of a final four season, it doesn't bode well for Tennessee.

A team that ended the season unranked expecting final four results is just plain unrealistic.

Three talented players left unexpectedly and are being replaced by untested players. Tennessee public relations and a sycophant press is good at providing the LV faithful with expectations for greatness, thus the positive attitudes. The freshmen, who haven't played a second of D1 ball think they are going to ride in and save the program. Then there's the coaching.

Getting into the top 25 would be a more reasonable goal, final four not so much.

I haven't read anywhere that anyone is claIming that this will be a Final Four team in 2017. Sometimes you hear someone close to a team say "every year the goal is the Final Four" but I haven't heard that with regards to the Vols. Extremely unlikely that we have a 2006 redux where the Terps won it all with froshies playing key roles.

Pretty comparable recruiting rankings to the 2013-14 UNC class.

Hoopgulrz rates TN this year 2, 7, 12 and 57.
They rated UNC that year 3, 7, 14 and 23.

UNC had more carryover talent and experience than Tenn does. They were coming off a 29-7 record and 2nd place ACC finish the year before.

UNC finished 27-10 and tied for 5/6 in the ACC.

Although they were hyped to death all year by ESPN.

If UNC is any model, the question might be "how many will finish their career where they started"?
