And for Cooper's sake/sanity,he better hope atlanta doesn't get the #1 pick.Losing a lottery pick for Boyette was bad enough.Losing Wilson would be an epic embarrassment.........The only way Cooper saves face is if Boyette becomes a legit top 5 center,or if she plays a key role in atlanta winning a championship.Wilson not being as good as advertised would also soften the blow. |
If Cooper gets fired (as pilight thinks could happen) the trade won't matter much. If he doesn't get fired, the alleged return of Angel next year would probably improve the teams record and aside from basement dwellers who keep track of such things, the trade probably won't matter either. It could be Cooper was told the team didn't want to spend the money scouting for the 2018 draft so trade the pick. The Dream have traded their No. 1 pick quite often over the years and have had pretty good luck with second round picks (Hayes, Bentley) though I don't think the Sky second round pick will be very high.

I can totally understand Cooper's mindset behind making the trade.Atlanta is already stacked at the SF/SG positions. So Deshields,Mitchell, and Williams aren't really needed. The dream also get a young center with very good upside. With Sancho getting up in age,Williams can slide to the PF position. However,Cooper made the mistake of not waiting until draft day to make the trade. He should have made a verbal agreement to make the trade with the conditions that atlanta could call off the trade should they get the #1 pick,or if they draft Stevens/Collier.
