Thanks. Always interesting. He's pretty PC of course, but that is to be expected.

I guess that there's not much to talk about since we can't actually see the games. It will be interesting to see if Australia is still the World University Games favorites. Japan beat Canada fairly decisively.

The US slaughtered Canada today, 107-61.

I guess speed and skill trump height.

Article, box score and pictures at
https://www.usab.com/news-events/news/2017/08/wu23-game-02-can.aspx

USA is now 2-0, Canada is 0-2, Australia and Japan are each 1-1.

I doubt they rolled Geno out and named him "Lead Clinician" unless they intended to teach improved skills and considered it necessary.

Good to hear though that Ionescu has no need of Geno's tutelage.

Watching basically a same age group USAB team lose in the Pan Am Games two years ago, I doubt I would conclude that fundamental skills are beyond need of improvement at this age level.

Of course Sabrina needs Geno's tutelage. A couple hours one-on-one would be tremendous.

But doing dribbling drills is hardly the same as getting instruction from Geno, and that's what Sabrina is saying.

Even at the high school level, mass drills are inherently inefficient because some players are much better at some things than others, and you don't want to dumb down the drill to the lowest common denominator, or, at the other hand, do drills that half the team can't.

The players need instruction, preferably one-on-one, not group drills.

Well, I think we've beaten this to death, but she didn't say anything remotely close to your characterization. There is nothing in her comment suggesting "I could really use individual skills training but don't find group lessons helpful."

No, she said basically "I don't need no stinking skills practice. Our skills are great already."

“I like being able to go out here and play a little more than just doing some skill stuff, just because everyone at this level is pretty good at the skill stuff."

That doesn't mean if she is offered individual training she would turn it down or that she doesn't do individual training, she is talking about within the context of the training camp as the description of her quote says "on the competitive, tournament format of the U23 training camp." Do you even know what question she was specific asked to which she replied with that answer to say she believes she doesn't need any skills practice? Because it is unfair to her to assume something based on a small quote that USA Basketball included in a story.

Another win without any issues. I wonder if Jeff will send scouting reports on the three teams to help Brenda.

Lots of one on one. Some didn't listen to the words of wisdom at camp that it is about the team looking for the best shot 😉

Did you watch the three games? Are they online somewhere? Can you provide a link please? Thanks.

He'll need to use numbers not names.
