....freedom to intimidate?
Quote:
"Everyone has a right under the First Amendment to express their opinion peaceably, so here's mine: not only as the Mayor of Charlottesville, but as a UVA faculty member and alumnus, I am beyond disgusted by this unsanctioned and despicable display of visual intimidation on a college campus," Signer said.

Now, I'm not convinced that removal of the Lee statue is justified, but the reaction still shocks me.

Police have estimated that between 2,000 and 6,000 protesters and counter-protesters may descend on Charlottesville for Saturday's rally

This is a lot of press coverage for something attracting fewer people than the average Mystics game

Fewer people were killed on American soil on 9-11 than may attend a Mystics game. Coverage varied there, too. Point?

Nobody got killed here. It's just a handful of yahoos that don't deserve this much attention.

Yet.

Quote:
A car crashed into a crowd of peaceful protesters here Saturday after police in riot gear dispersed crowds at the "Unite the Right" rally following bottle-throwing clashes between alt-right demonstrators, counter-protesters, white nationalists, neo-Nazis and supporters of Black Lives Matter.

Several hundred protesters were marching peacefully in a long line downtown when the silver sedan drove into a group of them, although it was not immediately clear whether the driver was acting deliberately.

Photos and video posted on social media showed several people receiving treatment on the ground, but the number of injuries was not immediately known. An Associated Press reporter saw at least one person on the ground receiving medical treatment immediately after the incident.

Charlottesville officials said two people were treated for serious injuries after fights broke out earlier in the leadup to the rally that city officials declared an "unlawful assembly."

Great!! He's an Indiana idiot!!!!! Mad

It's still gotten way more news coverage than it deserves. These idiots want attention. Giving it to them will only lead to further incidents.

So we shouldn't cover terrorism? Or we should only cover it when the terrorist is brown? Our Dear Leader seems to agree with you.

It's funny how our president, who felt it soooooooo important to make sure that we used the words "radical islamic terrorism" refuses to call this "radical right wing terrorism".

Agreed re: The Idiots seeking attention. But since they GOT it, it needs to be renounced in the strongest language possible. And....after all, this wasn't 8 skinheads with placards in Podunksville. This was hordes on a major American University campus. This shouldn't be ignored.

He wasn't complaining about them when they were voting for him.

I thought the "best" part of his statement was when he said we all needed to love each other. Seems contrary to everything he has done in the past several years, starting with his Birther movement, his proposed Mulsim ban, his proposal that he would lock Hillary up, his claim that Ted Cruz' father worked with Oswald, his claim that Obama wiretapped him, and his claim that there were 3 million illegal aliens voting among other things.

I wish someone would tear that toupee off his head and ram it up his ass!

He's two days late and also only said it because he was getting dragged for his initial statement. These are not his genuine feelings. Fuck him.

Here's an article that talks about how the police could have avoided a lot, if not all of the violence

The pens were reserved for the "alt right" and when the Governor shut down the rally, the police released the people out of the pens right into the counter-demonstrators, which included militant Antifa, without escort, instead of letting them out to the north. It's like they wanted the two sides to clash.

I'd rather NOT, but....someone should! LOL

Really. Any positive his very contrived 2nd statement might have had was obliterated today by his 'genuine' comments about the Alt-Left bullshit. Ever notice, you can ALWAYS tell when he's 'genuine'....it's unrehearsed and assholey.

His feeble excuse that he needed to 'understand all the facts' before he reacted is the most bizarre bullshit ever: when he feels the need to tweet vengeance, he never cares about facts, he fires at will.

And all the talking heads (even my beloved PBS anchors) STILL talk about his actions in ways that oddly dignify his behavior....as if he's NOT CRAZY.
