Mystics STH. We've renewed for next year, but probably won't move to the new arena. It's farther away, in a pretty desolate area. We're assuming that the WNBA games will be the only events held there during the season, which means the concessions will be limited, at best. STHs get a food credit per ticket, which can be used for overpriced hot dogs, burgers, tiny pizza, or prefab chicken planks.
Since Detrimental Sports blacks out the league pass broadcasts in the DC area, we won't be able to reliably see games - their home grown broadcast continually freezes, IF it's even available.
Games perks would be nice, but those of us in the cheap seats are used to seeing t-shirts thrown to the same people in the first ten rows every game.

I, after 21 seasons, have not renewed due to many factors but mostly neglect from the organization. I have heard that there are others like me in other cities including Minnesota. True? rumor?

I'm still a huge fan of the W and the Mercury, but the games aren't fun anymore and there are many factors that contribute to that, but for me personally the refs have made the game unwatchable without huge quantities of alcohol lol, and a girl has to drive home so that's a no-no, and the Mercury organization got rid of Kip Heldt the game entertainment genius and Amber Cox the friendliest and most responsive executive in the business. Their absence really shows on game days.

Any thoughts?

The Sun are reaping the benefits of Amber Cox. I went to some Sun games this year and they're much more enjoyable than years past. The entire arena has a different vibe to it.

Because the casino comps got drastically rolled back or eliminated altogether Playoffs will be the only way I'll see this.

I know how Merc fans feel...Poor management and rep turnover had me ready to drop my tickets 3 times in the late 2ks.

Kristin Bernert (and by succession Keia Clarke) have made Lib games fun even when the team isn't at it's best (like this season) I've had fun at home games this year despite some frusturating losses

Pre bernert could say a loss was like a root canal and you were only in it for the people on the court.

It matters...A Lot.

Yes WE renewed and will be doing thieir monthly payment option.... But ill say it I see most every arena in the league...currently I'd say there are maybe 4 I'd buy Season tickets to (Libs included) Not good when someone as invested in the sport as I am says that

Not a season ticket holder. I live in Texas, but I am 4+ hours away from either team. However, I have attended many games in SA and their front office has been amazing to work with. If only it was 2011 and the Stars were what they once were.

I am a season ticket-holder and I am definitely renewing.

I mainly renew because I want to support women' sports, and professional women's sports. I want the WNBA to be successful and to continue on. The fact that the games are extremely fun are a bonus. I don't care about the perks.

I would love to be able to support them just because I love womens sports but I gave up corporate America for the non profit world and my disposable income has become very precious. I don't care to give it to an organization that doesn't even try to care. I will still support the W, I will get League Pass, I will buy merchandise, even attend a few Mercury games but that's it.

Yes, I do feel lucky that I can afford to be a season ticket-holder, this may change when I retire or I may drop down to a cheaper seat, but still support.

The play on the Court, minus the refs lol, isn't really the issue. remember, I've been here since day one and hung in during things like hiring Cynthia Cooper, drafting Tootie Shaw and the dreaded "chucky" Tamicha Jackson seasons lol

I've been a Storm STH for seven years and am considering not renewing. In the Storm fan FB group, there was a long thread about this topic right before the announcement about Boucek. Many people there were considering not renewing - including some who have had them for the team's whole history.

The in-game experience in terms of entertainment has deteriorated, but truthfully I'm just as happy looking at my phone during breaks. Other people have said that they resent not getting as many free t-shirts and the players aren't as accessible. I guess the players used to throw t-shirts after games and don't do that anymore, but I almost never stay after games. There were also no games with giveaways this year - or maybe one t-shirt giveaway at the beginning of the season? There used to be several each year - lunch boxes, bobbleheads, etc.

I wish there were more perks that came with being a season ticket holder. One year I got a pen, and seriously that was the single best perk I have ever gotten from the Storm (not a t-shirt person)! Last year there was an open practice, and I also loved that. I'm not a big fan of the party-type events.

Of course, what most people complained about most is the team performance. And on top of all this, prices went up by about 10%. The coaching change has me more inclined to renew. I'm happy with my seat, and $400/season still seems like a good deal.

This is the first year I've heard so many STHs talk about not renewing, but I've also heard they've had a big increase in season ticket sales.

400???!! Shocked The lowest a wings STH can pay is 700! Wtf Prices range between 700-1000 . Wow

Every person that has a players card for the casino gets offers for free tickets to every single regular season Sun game whether they play at the casino or not. I have a friend who has a players card, but rarely ever plays at the casino and he gets free ticket offers for every single game. He just has to reserve the free tickets, and then pick them up at the arena club at the casino on game days. He says when he goes, there is always a huge lineup for the free tickets.

Not every person. HC and I both have cards, and we haven't been able to get free tickets for months. Early in the season, they weren't showing up as offers, but you could call and ask, but now they're not even providing that.

Wow Caune. Didn't know things were so bad in Mercuryland for them to lose their #1 fan. I remember meeting you years ago after a Phoenix/LA game at the bar around the corner from the arena & thought how cool that the Phoenix fans hang out after games. In LA everyone is out as fast as possible because it may be a long way home. Or maybe I'm just getting too old to hang out! Anyway, to answer your question, yes, I'm renewing my Sparks tickets, although I was on the fence. Luckily I still have good friends that have season tickets, or I probably would not renew. I haven't been able to make many games in the last couple years, but I trade with them so they don't go unused & I can get more for any game if I want. I do renew partly to support female athletes. I'm not as in to the league as I used to be, but it's still fun & LA is doing great, so for now it's a yes. I don't care a bit about giveaways, although I would love a photo with Magic! Maybe I'll suggest that to my great rep Smile

The cheapest season tickets for the Storm are around $200.

I'm been with the Minnesota Lynx since the beginning -19 years. Next season is the 20th and its going to be special.

I have already gotten my season tickets for next year. The best $37 i'll spend next year. I have two tickets and do the monthly plan, so it'll cost me $100.00 a month. My sister has a season ticket and she comes up from Iowa.
This is a family affair. The seats are right on the center line, 21 rows up. The first 12 years the Lynx were awful but my mom came up from southern Minnesota and loved the Lynx even though we lost more than we won. Thank goodness she was able to see the Minnesota Lynx win the Championship in 2011 before she died. Memories i will always treasure.

I come from a time before Title nine where I wish professional basketball was around so i want to support women's basketball. I know that you can support the team with out being a season ticket holder but I prefer to be a season ticket holder. I feel invested in the team.

Why:
I love basketball, win or lose. I found out early on, if I was going to enjoy the games, I needed to enjoy all aspects of the game and not just if we won or loss. I use to get upset about refs and still sometimes do, but it's not worth getting worked up about the calls. All teams have games where the refs are bad. I see that as part of the game. Don't get me wrong, I hope one day, I don't see games that are influenced by the refs but until then, i'm not sweating it.

I like the team, coach and organization. The players and Coach are good at what they do but better people. Early on I wanted the GM fired many times but things have worked out so i'm not so ready to have him gone now. I like what they are doing. They had to make some tough decisions early on that cut down on game day experience. The half time entertainment is not so hot. Mostly court games with the fans. I don't need a half time show. They don't give away as many shirts..I don't care. I just care that the Minnesota Lynx are in the black. Being in the black is the only way the league is going to survive. I also like that they can keep the ticket prices low so I can afford them.

The other perks I like is I can bank tickets so if I miss a game, i can move it to another game. Just had 5 of my family come and enjoy the LA game with me...even though we lost.

If i want to sell my tickets, there is a online app that I can sell them. Real easy.

If i need an extra ticket for a friend, i get it at the season ticket rate

Post game talks with the coaches
Draft day get together and viewing parties
and many more.........

It's troubling to hear the bad experiences that some of the season ticket holders are having with their teams but it sounds like if you don't get season tickets, at least you'll keep supporting the WNBA and your team
and that is a good thing!

Yes, the league struggles in many areas but we just need to be vocal and keep telling the organizations how they can do better. I hope that the experiences will get better and that the league will be around for many years to come.

I echo what all the Libs fans are saying. For me, number one is the on-court product. I don't need in-game entertainment. The game is my entertainment and honestly at games I guess I'm probably everyone else's entertainment around me anyway.

HOWEVER, and this is a big however, organizational stability is of huge importance to me. And this is a very stable organization on the basketball side of it, from the reps to all the basketball people. One thing I hated about the Blaze era that ultimately drove me away from season tickets for a few years was the haphazard way you'd see team-building and planning. Going from a gritty, tough defensive team to a soft-as-Charmin defensive team built around Becky in every way including the advertising on TV grated on me after awhile. Becky did eventually become a great player, with her best years after the trade. But then you had the pretty fun '07 team with the 3 point shooting that challenged Detroit. In '08, the same as far as coming within an eyelash of beating Detroit in the ECF with a team that had gradually added size and speed. Now at the end of '08 going into '09 you had them unsuccessfully trying to transform into a Detroit-style of team but Blaze forgot that besides size and athleticism having people to score, handle and pass usually aided winning. So I was one angry dude for all of '09, culminating with what I knew at the time was the idiotic Sidney Spencer trade. Then back to a 3-ball shooting team in 2010 before Blaze was mercifully (for me) let go.

Today we have excellent ticket reps, strong management, numerous people involved in player development, a stable style of play and structure. Even last week when I thought maybe the Libs should start Zahui. Vaughn immediately has two strong games, the team wins 3 straight, and we basically know why Laimbeer is one of the league's top all-time coaches and I'm a dummy sitting here posting stuff.

But anyway, the point is that for me, I want structure and stability on the basketball side. Add in very accommodating ticket reps and season tickets at midcourt for $35 per game in NYC (where stuff is super expensive), unparalleled team access on social media and I have no complaints at all. Honestly, it's easy to forget when the team does frustrating things on the court, but if you're a Libs season-ticket holder these days you're actually pretty lucky.

Wow

Is the Wings website wrong because it looks like you could have got 400 dollar season tickets

http://wings.wnba.com/tickets/season-memberships/

They adjusted the prices sometime during the season. I know if you would have saw that same website before the season started the lowest was 700 and the highest was 1000. I remember complaining about this at the beginning of the season also and when i was told about other teams prices i brought this up to some people and magically the prices are different Laughing Laughing

Sparks STH from year 1. Am on the fence about renewal for next season. We have the highest priced seats in the arena (face value $60) and they are going up 7 bux next season. If I stay it's for the love of the game, but will likely move my seats to a less expensive area. If I go it will be because I have lost some of the enthusiasm I once had, there are really no perks for STHs (not many give aways or anything), and DJ Malsky ran out of new stuff years ago and is now just a pest.

I am a STH (but you knew this caune) and I renewed. But I thought about it long and hard. And have second guessed the decision to do so more than once. And for many of the reasons you mentioned.

The games are just not fun any more and for me, it has more to do with officiating than anything. I have always detested the ability of officials to change the momentum of a game and take the crowd out. And it happens all the time and with a greater frequency. The video review system has got to change. They need to watch game film to learn that the players really can make the plays they do instead of making an "anticipation" call that is wrong because they don't realize the caliber of talent on the court.

As a Mercury fan, I dislike that DT has the highest number of technical every year but as a fan watching the game, I totally understand why. She stands up to bad calls. I wish more players would do the same.

It has become my habit when I go to games to see who the officials are before game to see if we have a chance of winning. Not because I think the officials target the Mercury (with the exception of Tom Mauer who seems to try and "bait' DT into losing it and relishes when he can make a bad call against her) but more that, in their badness we will never be able to play the game they way we need in order to win.

So why did I renew? Because if I don't, I walk away forever. It used to be that I did not want to lose my "seniority" but the Mercury organization is taking care of that for me. I have moved all over the arena. Bought and paid for 2 to 6 season tickets per year (and it is only me). And I have had my tickets since the first pre-season game. But many of the real "perks" are being given to the person who meets a certain price threshold and the length of your commitment as a STH means nothing.

Wish I knew that my friends were not going to be across the arena when I go to games. Knowing that just might have saved me a few bucks. But I do have an extra seat for each game and usually can't go to every one. So, caune, give me call if you are interested in taking in a game next season on me.

I was a STH for the Storm from 2003 through 2012. I've continued to go to 3-4 games a year since then; they main factor for me in giving up my season tickets was related to traffic and travel time. I live 60 miles south of Seattle, and in the early years, the commute was 60-75 minutes consistently. It's been years since we made it in under 2 hours - it took almost 3 hours to get there for opening night this year.

We bought a 6 pack of tickets this year because it allowed us priority for the ASG. Being inside Key Arena is still one of my favorite places to be in the world. Unfortunately, it's tough to justify the expenses (gas, parking, tickets) plus the hours spent in traffic when the product hasn't been as consistently enjoyable. Yes, we were spoiled - those seasons with very few home losses were wonderful. The drive home was happy. It's a long trip down I5 after a disappointing loss.

The adrenaline of a win was a real chemical fix. The arena was packed. We were LOUD. 6,000 attendance nights made you look around and wonder where everyone was. We impacted the outcome of the game with our noise (Remember Stephanie White at the free throw line in 2005?). A long drive for a half empty arena and a losing team was not very appealing. I never intended to be a fair-weather fan; I still watch and follow, just can't make the ST commitment.

The team has definitely not ignored me, however! I get multiple calls and e-mails every year, during the season and the off-season, trying to get me to games. Storm ticket reps have always been great. But I do agree with the people saying the team has been less accessible, etc. Fewer team events, giveaways, post game stuff, all that. The game day experience has declined as well. We had some of the funniest videos played during games (Stormy Awards, Between Two Birds, etc). Where has that stuff gone?

I'm so sad to hear how many long time fans are choosing not to renew and that they feel the game experience isn't what it once was. Sad

My STH rep answers questions quickly. That's it. I guess when the team wins it means that prices go way up and perks go way down.

I'm a shy person and it isn't like I expect lots of special attention. But boy do I miss just a few chances to say hi to a player or get to know other STHs a little.

My former STH neighbor from past seasons died a few months ago. My name and number was still in her wallet. That's how it used to be.

Sorry about your former sth neighbor. Since I started 21 years ago 3 of the women that sat in our section have died. 😢 The Mercury used to feel more like a very large family. That's been gone since Amber left.

Dream don't seem very aggressive this year about ST sales. In prior years the WNBA Pres would show up and they would have an event to meet her, and maybe some players, and/or the owners to sort of kick off renewal season. Is this going on in other cities? Or was this just something in the Richie era that Borders has dropped?

Donna O also did that.

I am a Storm season ticket holder since 2004. I will be renewing again this year (row 2 courtside seats). A few years ago, I almost stopped renewing. It was a very agonizing decision. Just like you, the games stopped being fun for me to go to and I figured I had better things to do with my time and money. But I eventually caved and now get to see Stewie and Jewel come into their own. Every so often, I still have games that aren't fun for me. Whether crappy coaching decisions or sucky refs. But for now, I will be going for my 15 season.

21 year STH. I renewed. The cost of my seat was reduced quite a bit but I have to pay extra for the parking. That's ok because it is still not all that bad.
