The final cut to 12 has been made:

Clay, does Haley Jones commute from Santa Cruz to Mitty every school day? I know people who had a similar commute for work and they hated it and eventually moved over the hill to avoid driving on 17.

I don't know where she lives, but I know her dad used to coach at Santa Cruz High School and USAB lists as being from Santa Cruz. She plays club ball for the Cal Stars, which practice in the East Bay.

None of that driving sounds fun to me ...

The tournament starts Wednesday. FIBA has all the games live and for replay on their YouTube channel.

Here are the USA links:
vs Colombia, 3pm ET Wednesday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xr9VI6rbehM
vs Mexico, 3pm ET Thursday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3FCFUEAK7Q
vs Puerto Rico, 5:15pm ET Friday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjHQ_sBtVHw

They apparently beat Canada by more than 20 in a scrimmage.

Game story for Columbia game. Link to boxscore will be available here later. (I didn't post the score in case someone wanted to watch it not knowing the outcome.)

No surprises on Day 1, although Karina Esquer put up 34 points in under 20 minutes for Mexico. Canada opened with a win over Venezuela, the United States eased past Colombia, Mexico stifled Puerto Rico, and hosts Argentina beat the Dominican Republic to close the day.

A few players on other teams have ties to the continental United States (until voted otherwise, Puerto Ricans are all American citizens):

Mexico:
Katia Gallegos, Franklin (TX)

Puerto Rico:
Jacqueline Vargas-Bines, Upper Dublin (PA)
Angelee Rodriguez, Ferguson (FL)
Giana Boulden, Trenton Catholic (NJ)

Colombia beat Puerto Rico in the other game in the group. That means that the Colombia-Mexico winner in the Friday opener will be the last semifinalist and World Championship qualifier. Obviously the United States has already made it. Canada beat the Dominican Republic and Argentina beat Venezuela to grab the other two spots from the other group.

The United States pretty much took care of business against Puerto Rico:
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/0906/Puerto-Rico-USA#|tab=boxscore_statistics

The key game was the first one, which Colombia managed to grind out over Mexico, a historic occasion for their program:
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/0906/Colombia-Mexico#|tab=boxscore_statistics

Venezuela beat the Dominican Republic in a game that only affected placement for the next game:
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/0906/Venezuela-Dominican-Republic#|tab=boxscore_statistics

The last game of the day was a big one too as both teams looked to get the easier path to the final. Argentina fought back, but Canada did enough late to win the group:
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/0906/Canada-Argentina#|tab=boxscore_statistics

The order of the Saturday games:
Venezuela vs Puerto Rico
Mexico vs Dominican Republic
Canada vs Colombia
United States vs Argentina

The USA game will be at 7:30pm ET and can be seen here live or on replay:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyZxY9v3Jwg

The other games will also be available on FIBA's YouTube channel.

It took until the second half to really pull away, but the United States beat Argentina:
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/1006/USA-Argentina#|tab=boxscore_statistics

They face Canada, who beat Colombia:
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/1006/Canada-Colombia#|tab=boxscore_statistics

In the consolation bracket, Venezuela edged Puerto Rico and the best performance by an American came from Katia Gallegos as Mexico beat the Dominican Republic:
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/1006/Venezuela-Puerto-Rico#|tab=boxscore_statistics
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/1006/Mexico-Dominican-Republic#|tab=boxscore_statistics

FIBA does not have the Sunday games listed on YouTube yet, but presumably they will be there by the final at 7:30pm ET.
Here is the order of games:
Puerto Rico vs Dominican Republic
Venezuela vs Mexico
Colombia vs Argentina
Canada vs United States

Final Boxscore:
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/1106/Canada-USA#|tab=boxscore_statistics

The redemption for this summer is complete. Now it's up to them to finish the job next year.

Earlier in the day, Puerto Rico beat the Dominican Republic to avoid last place:
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/1106/Puerto-Rico-Dominican-Republic#|tab=boxscore_statistics

Mexico took out some frustrations on Venezuela:
http://www.fiba.com/americas/u16women/2017/1106/Venezuela-Mexico#|tab=boxscore_statistics

Colombia actually acquitted themselves well, taking Argentina to overtime before losing:

3500 views on this topic, yet I haven't seen anyone evaluate any of the players in the actual tournament. Did anyone watch it (I didn't but might) and have any opinions to offer on the USA players?

I see 6-4 Aliya Boston won tournament MVP and was marginally the USA's best scorer and rebounder, shooting .543 with no 3pt attempts. That sounds pretty good if she's a low block player.

6-3 Sam Brunelle was second in scoring and rebounding, but shot bizarre percentages. She shot .346 on 3pt shots but a truly pathetic .241 on 2pt shots, for an overall .291 from the field. Nevertheless, she showed great touch from the eleemosynary etch by hitting .933 on 14-15. What kind of player does that?

Only five teams competed for two spots from Africa. Mali beat Angola for the title and both teams qualify.

Spain was the last team to qualify from Europe. France, Hungary, Italy, and Latvia qualified by winning quarterfinals. Belarus is automatically in as hosts.

The last places were determined earlier in the week in the combined Asia-Oceania tournament. Australia beat Japan for the championship. China qualified and New Zealand took advantage of the combined format to also make it.
