If they had a coach, it should be enough; it's not like Langhorne, Clark and Tokashki are trash. I'd bet if Curt Miller were coaching the Storm, they'd be playing for a first-round bye right now.

The only thing that might prevent Seattle from making a coaching change now is the team is on the road. If there was a break with a home game to follow, then the move could come by Monday. As it is, it is when, not if. The GM who already threw Boucek under the bus with Seattle media should join Boucek when a change is made.
Some of you forget the Montgomery trade was for injured Monica Wright as part of the tank mode operation of a few years ago.
Seattle has a very weak bench as a result of stripping down to tank and then making unsuccessful player (relatively few) moves after tank mode ended.
Right now the Storm is one of the worst teams in the league and they are healthy!

It does seem like the wheels pretty much came off since that article was published. Any team "chemistry" they had seems to have become toxic.

Is it too late for lady Plum to snatch ROY if she keeps playing like this the rest of the way? |
No it isn't. There are only two players ahead of her, Brittany Sykes and Allisha Gray. Kaela Davis also has a shot. None of these players are head and shoulders ahead of the field. If Plum gets her scoring up to double digits (which would mean 17.5 per game the rest of the way) and San Antonio goes .500 the rest of the way she has a shot, particularly if Atlanta and Dallas don't make the playoffs. That isn't likely, but it is certainly possible.

Jesus they did not tank. They simply stunk and were actually better once they traded away Monty IMO. They were no way going to make the playoffs and Monty's contract was expiring so they tried to get value for her. Wright was actually looking like her old self in training camp so it might have worked but she got hurt.
They have a weak bench because Valavanis is an extremely poor GM and Boucek is a system coach who is looking for unselfish players more than pure skill players. So, they fall for the analytics and draft KML instead of going for height and athleticism. And, they keep Alysha Clark and Crystal Langhorne as starters even though both make them horribly undersized. They underutilize Sami Whitcomb who really brought energy tonight and don't even seem to want to find a way to make Swords effective.
The worst thing that can happen to the Storm now is making that 8th spot and crashing and burning in the 1st round. Get rid of the coach and hire a better GM, get your lottery pick and bring in bench players that you can trust to play 20+ minutes a game.

I sit right by the bench and there is plenty of chemistry left. But Stewart and Bird have had no break and Stewart has been playing a ton of minutes. Plus, they are mostly on the road and are a terrible road team. This team is doing what so many other overworked teams have - running out of gas in the last third of the season. And Boucek sticks with her lineups too long when things are not working.

did you see those stars' stupid turnovers? bad passes, bad decision makings. like i said, two equally bad teams. they are just bad in different areas.

Yeah, both Whitcomb and Loyd were keeping her from doing her normal pick and roll with Harrison. She was staying too far out above the three point line. Her ball handling still needs improvement

Just to set the record straight: For the first, and only time in sports history, a team (Seattle) traded a player (Montgomery) for another player (Monica Wright) on the same day that player was having major knee surgery. Never happened before. This is either tanking or gross incompetence. Given this management crew let Krystal Thomas walk (20 rebounds the other night), then passed on Kia Vaughn/Hartley (remember it was 3 way trade) to take Swords; and drafted KML ("Stumpy") over players like Williams and Stokes, you can take your pick as to the reason. Consider this team supposedly planning for the future. In 3 years, there will only be 2 current players on the roster. Management should not let the door hit them on their well deserved way to oblivion, joining Trudi Lacey in the WNBA Hall of Fame for incompetence.

Whitcomb is an above average defender, even in this league. Not only that, she changes the game on both sides of the court. She got into the game 4 minutes into the 3rd, with the Storm facing an 18-point deficit. After 16 minutes of regulation and 5 more in OT, she finished with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. She is the bright spot on the league's weakest bench.
After her slow start coming off injury, Stewie has been phenomenal. But she needs more help than just Whitcomb. Jewell has been inconsistent, seemingly trying to do to much--sometimes trying to take over but finding little success in it. I think the team's system, whether by design or not, is allowing her too much freedom and it may be time to rein her in. She was our third best player last night, but she can do better. And the others were basically no-shows.
No surprise here that Plum went off. I called it. I figured now that she is healthy and playing with some confidence, she was looking forward to facing off against Sue and Stewie this time around. She probably still remembers Stewie's block in Seattle that put her to the ground. I'm guessing she went into yesterday's game loose and ready to be aggressive. Whitcomb slowed her down a bit, but it wasn't enough.

Stewart is an exceptionally talented player and looks to me like the rest of the team expects her to do all the scoring. Bird has to play 35 minutes and has 6 assists but is way past her prime when it comes to scoring so other teams can sag off of her and that really hurts their offense.Hard for a team to really function offensively when they are so focused on one player.

Seattle tries to hide Bird on the other team's weakest shooter. She might be the worst man-to-man defender in the league. Couple that with yielding 10 offensive rebounds per game and being undersized you're at 10th in the league in defensive efficiency and yielding about 200 more FGA than you've taken, which is a crazy stat.
The team FG % is.478 and the Storm are 4th in offensive efficiency. Boucek may well not be the answer, but I'm also not sold that anyone else could do better with the personnel they've got. Some coaches, such as Agler, might get a bit more out of the defense and that's fine. But I think the personnel is far more the issue than whoever becomes the coach. If Boucek goes then the GM surely should too.

I have wondered for a while who was more responsible for the personnel choices. I know that Boucek very much likes Quinn and Clark for their versatility. Who was the person responsible for bringing in Swords, who was not even a 20 minute player on the Liberty? That person did not bring in a person who was going to ever fit into Boucek's system. Valavanis seems to have done a lot with the business side of the Storm but I would not mind her losing the GM tag.

Usually a GM and coach will be on the same page when it comes to fit which is what makes it odd. Swords also isn't a hugely impactful defensive player. She's certainly a good role player but it's not like having an athletic 6'6" player defending the rim.

Actually, it isn't. Part of why I liked the trade was the assumption that she would fit in with the team and that Boucek would play her. The fact that Boucek/Valavanis were either wrong about how she would fit in or not on the same page as to what the team needed is an indication that the front office is not on the same page somehow.
Of course, I have a life and so am not sitting here even remembering what I said 8 months ago much less assuming that I don't have a right to change my mind. As it happens, that post was pretty accurate in that the draft stunk even with the early declarers and there was not a single post who was worth a darn.

When one player scores 32 of the teams total of 80 points it tells me there is something radically wrong with how the team runs their offense or else the rest of the team players are beyond terrible.

Stewart has been ON FIRE. I just saw on facebook that she has 12 games in a row with 20 points or more. She tied Diana Taurasi's record from 2006.
And still i believe she doesnt get enough touches or that she is our clear number 1 option in the system of Jenny Boucek.
Its just unbelievable how effective she is with the amount of shots that she gets. Right now she is shooting 49,4% from the field and 38% from behind the arc and she is 2nd in scoring in the league
