Well, the list is remarkably predictable:

Atkins
Billings
Brown
Canada
Durr
Ionescu
McPhee
Mitchell
Nared
Ogunbowale
Russell
Wilson

Congrats to Britt. I certainly am pleasantly surprised that she made it onto the team. I wonder how she's improved this year.

Pac-12 Flavor as Canada, Billings, Ionescu, and McPhee make it.

SEC with Nared, Russell, and Wilson.

Yeah, I'm surprised McPhee made it but hopefully that is a good omen for us this year. I'm guessing she was one of the ones benefiting from the absence of the UConn contingent.

PS nice to see you on the board.

I agree Glenn. I was told it was to set the tone and pace of the try outs but it seems like a heck of a lot of traveling etc.

Almost seems like they were keeping a lot of college coaches happy by spreading the wealth, noticed Moore didn't make it with Walz as the coach after her transfer😉.

Interesting (to me) that Slocum, Vivians and Anigwe didn't make it.

i was just about to bring that up, especially Victoria Vivians. that's not a sign i was hoping she would make it. i watched a fews mins of it couldn't watch the whole thing cuz the stream was garbage but from what i've saw Mitchell and Nared was gettin buckets together

starting lineup i think

Canada
Mitchell
Nared
Billings
Wilson

that's kinda scary folks...im curious though if the UCONN players were available who wouldn't of made the team

Thanks. Any news re Katelynn Flaherty?

Minor injury of some sort that will not keep her out of her senior season.

Glenn seemed to have a missconception of what this is all about. In his OP he referred to the "U23 "Games" as if this was some sort of FIBA sponsored championship when in fact it is little more than a sort of Junkeroo Jam, limited to 4 teams, except it's being held half way around the world. If there is any waste of money it's the round robin tournament itself, which seems to be litttle more than a bunch of developmental scrimmages whose purpose is to evaluate the cream of college basketball with an eye to see who will be invited to the tryouts for the next Olympics and going forward from there. And in that respect it would be natural to invite the 3 AA's from UConn along with the current and erstwhile Duke players.

If frugality was a concern they would have saved all those plane fares to and stratospheric hotel prices in Tokyo and just had the 40 players stay in Colorado and play against each other, which in all likelihood would provide better competition than what they will face in Japan.

I suspect Anigwe's absence is due to her lack of versatility. For all her tremendous skill in the low post she still needs some work playing outside.

That would mean the bench would be Russell + 6 guards. Not very balanced. I think Durr gets the start at the 3 over Nared.

Leaving them with only 3 players over 6-0. Does that put McPhee and Atkins in the post rotation? 😳

Is this the first year of a U23 Team? I've never heard of such a team. Like WNBA players could play in this. That seems pretty old for an age-specific team.

Well, the USAB release linked in the first post of this thread said "Athletes eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens who are 23 years old or younger and currently are freshmen, sophomores or juniors in college.". So I suspect that provides your answer.

OK. So I just read this post. But some of these players are clearly seniors. Maybe because they haven't entered their senior year yet IDK. But my statement still stands that this is pretty old for an age-specific event.

Yeah, that's pretty weird they would add Harper instead of another real big. atkins maybe. McPhee no way. Guess they may play some small ball.

With Wilson out it seems that Anigwe would have been a perfect replacement.

Unless Anigwe didn't impress in camp. It's hard to tell sometimes what the committee is thinking.

Jeff Walz, the HC, favors guard heavy teams... it's his style. Coaches have their styles.. Dawn probably would've had 3 or 4 versatile forward/centers and 2 or 3 more Jamie Nared/Napheesa Collier type guard/forwards on this team because Dawn loves forwards. When you're cherry picking from the best this is the only opportunity coaches have to build their "dream" rosters..

I am not sure which thread would be best, but Canada has named this squad for this tournament, which will then head to Taiwan for the World University Games:

If you were anticipating that I would do the usual rosters for the World University Games, I think that I will not be doing it for that tournament in light of other international play this summer that actually falls under the FIBA banner.

The opposite of the US. Most over 6'0.
