Trading Boyette (and Young) makes me wonder if Coates may suit up for the Sky this season.

New York will be happy to take either Christmas or Powers from Dallas. Powers for Stokes? Or do we offer Christmas a near max deal to bring her over(I do believe she's an UFA this offseason)?

Stop just stop. We are not giving u powers toad. NOT happening , you can have karima or KD but please quit including powers into your trade scenarios. Bibb Knows powers potential she will not be traded to anyone thanks.

Without Coates, they have:

PG: Vandersloot/Epps
SG: Quigley/Pondexter
SF: Hampton/Copper/Hooper
PF: Breland/Harris
C: Dolson/Parker

If next year's draft lives up to everyone's hype then I don't mind this trade at all for the Sky. Sounds to me like they've made the most out of a fairly precarious position with both of those players.

Was it the Sparks broadcast in which the broadcasters were speculating for her to join the team in August?

It sure looks like there's an opening for Coates, and it would be smart to lock her in even though it's hard to say she'd contribute much if anything this year. Hard to guess where she's at since we get so little info about her.

Once again, Coates is not playing this season. Unless Stocks lied to her season ticket holders (which has happened before)

Just in case you don't know me but that statement was a tongue in cheek joke. Very Happy

I agree. It's a ballsy move for sure, but not a dumb move.

well it gives them a bencher just in case something happens to somebody else. And I always like to see a marginal player get a little something...And maybe they needed to hit the minimum salary level?

Not really. They're playing with 11 people right now, Cheyenne Parker is hurt, and their backup center is Amber Harris.

And if Harris continues to not do anything, they can throw in Graves when needed. Just added insurance.

http://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/20240439/chicago-sky-keep-grinding-season-future-brighter

Quote:
"I don't anticipate that Alaina will be playing and able to produce for the remaining 2017 season," Stocks said. "Of course, that can change at any moment. She is active in her rehab and recovering. She is progressing very well. She's a hard worker, she's focused, she's passionate about the game. She's doing all the right things to put herself in position to continue to excel at the professional level."

Since that statement basically says two things -- Stocks doesn't expect Coates to play, but then again, she might -- let's ask this: Did the trade have anything to do with Coates?

"No, that was not the motivating catalyst behind the trade," Stocks said. "However, if Alaina is in playing form, then we will absolutely be excited about using her."

Sky are now currently .5 behind Atlanta & Seattle for that #8 seed. Their schedule isn't easy for the rest of the season, but both Atlanta & Seattle have been playing poorly. Let's see what the Sky are capable of. They might be able to make the play-offs going 4-4 for the remainder of the season.

Remaining schedule:
vs. San Antonio
vs. Los Angeles
vs. Seattle
@ Connecticut
@ New York
vs. Dallas
@ Minnesota
vs. Seattle

Sky looking to win and build for future at the same time

http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/sky-looking-to-win-and-build-for-future-at-the-same-time/

Quote:
Clearly, the Sky (10-16) are trying to pull off a difficult feat: win now while building for the future. Sky coach and general manager Amber Stocks doesn’t seem too bothered by the degree of difficulty.

“There definitely are challenges with that,” Stocks told the Sun-Times, “however, I wouldn’t say it’s hard to do both.”

They can just have the Dream play the lottery for them, while they enter the playoff race. What's Slooty's opinion of the playoffs? "It's a whole new season."

Quote:
That sentiment goes against conventional wisdom. Usually, teams decide to either go for wins or look to the future because it’s not easy to do both simultaneously.

But Stocks isn’t seeing things that way, and she likes how her team is approaching the task at hand.

Quote:
“The players that we have on this team are very focused, and we’re all on the same page as far as our commitment and our passion,” Stocks said. “That helps everybody see the same picture and have similar goals in mind."

I dunno... something tells me Stocks may have noticed Boyette retweeting and liking the notion of her getting traded. That would indicate everyone not being on the same page on commitment, or it may have been obvious even without the tweeting.

I would say Amber Harris has struggled with commitment and focus throughout her glorious WNBA career. Now that Boyette has been traded, she really needs to buckle down and hone that focus or she may become the next Amber Harris with all that unrealized potential.

Quote:
“It comes down to the details, no matter how you slice it,’’ Stocks said. ‘‘My focus is on the details and leading, coaching, guiding, managing us to win possessions. When you win possessions, then the results take care of themselves and you win games, then advance to the playoffs.”

I think she can see her own locker room better than twitter.

Given Boyette's history, and tweets I can see her not being on the "same page" no matter how that was determined. However, I've never heard or seen anything about Young that suggests a lack of "commitment or passion." (Of course, there were those who questioned her talent level....) In fact, against the Dream she seemed to often get into Angel head.
