Q&A: Diana Taurasi on marriage, officiating and being an American
Quote: |
Vertsberger: I wanted to ask you about Geno Auriemma, he had this quote saying there aren’t more female coaches because women chose not to be, what’s your take on that?
Taurasi: I think that’s a little bit skewed. I mean I look around the WNBA right now and I see Katie on the bench. I see Penny. I see Sandy Brondello. I see Taj McWilliams and Bridget Pettis. I see Cheryl Reeve and all the people she’s tutoring. There are. I just don’t think we get the same opportunity to be recycled. Men coaches get recycled like a bottle of Coke, in every sport. |

According to WNBA Fan's Nation on facebook,

I'll keep my eye on this: Danielle Robinson sounds like she was helped out of Mercury practice with a right knee injury. The Mercury do not play until Friday (against the Chicago Sky) and they do have a very good bench PG in case she is forced to miss any time. |

Heard it was just an ankle sprain.
Hopefully her recovery will be as speedy as she is.

With the Currie trade, the Mercury have an open roster spot. Maybe Petrovic is coming over? So the Mercury now have:
PG: Robinson/Mitchell
SG: Taurasi/Turner/Prince
SF: Talbot/Currie
PF: Little/Cannon
C: Griner/George

Makes sense. I mentioned on here somewhere after Montenegro got knocked out of EuroBasket Women that she could be worth picking up. Gives them a backup for Griner who might actually be able to defend for 30 seconds without fouling someone (which Cayla George seems incapable of).
Generally speaking, Currie/Robinson for Murphy/Brunner is a pretty clear upgrade for Phoenix. |

Its funny for a 28 year old woman to say that. Usually, its a 50+ year old guy talking about a testosterone supplement.

I was watching a Stanford/ASU game when Bruner was a freshman. She had just scored and the announcers were saying good things about her as she got back on defense around the free throw line. Then Chiney Ogwumike comes into the picture and runs into Bruner like she wasn't there. No idea if that was because Bruner had just scored on her or if there was contact on the other end that she didn't like. For some reason, the announcers ignored it and no foul was called. |
Not sure that had anything to do with what Sophie Brunner did on the offensive end of the floor, that is the way Chiney and Nneka played at Stanford, they would create contact with their defender and ride them down to the post, or if they were already in the paint post them up. By creating the contact and getting the defender off balance it allows the offensive player to get better position and do what is called a "no move needed" score, which Chiney and Nneka work both so good at getting because they would do their work early in the paint._________________ DeLisha Milton-Jones is my favorite player

One of my coaching mantras (ignored, of course, as most are) is "Initiate contact -- on both ends of the floor."
Of course you have to avoid fouling while doing so, but the player who initiates contact without fouling almost always has the advantage.
