I wouldn't be surprised if they're better without her...

Really. Thibault said she wasn't good enough to play for the Sun.

So? Even if thibault drafted her,
She wouldn't still be with the Sun anyways. And no one here says Thibault is at all smart. He had a pathetic draft record with the Sun aside Whalen and Charles. The rest of his picks were all basically useless.

I have my own cemented thoughts about the sun and every time a player leaves i cant help but assume its because of UNCASVILLE and the woods Laughing . no one wants to play in the cellar and Woods!!! Automatic turn off ..its like a prison you need extra re assurance either a family member of bff or w.e you prefer as a crutch there with you. Unless you went to UCONN and understand the Culture the players never really seem to stay long.Players want the big cities and uncasville is just uncasville i guess but Thats just my personal outlook on how ive pictured the sun franchise over the years. So i believe TIP actually dodged a bullet Laughing

Your correct. Tulsa was another location where no one wanted to play. Uncasville is only desirable to those who want side jobs at ESPN

Perhaps they will be better. Seems like Atlanta is a bit better this year without Angel McCoughtry too. Only issue is this leaves the Sun with only 3 guards. Will they suspend Bentley and bring in another guard until she returns? Personally, I think they should just cut Jordan Hooper or Danielle Adams, both of whom are not needed at all on this team, and sign another guard for the remainder of the season.

Careful what you wish for. Faris may return.

Since Miller said earlier that he may bring Faris back if no one else takes her... I expect her to return. It's not like anyone else wanted her. Lol. They DO need another guard. At least she knows the system in CT. If they bring her back only to fill in for Bentley for a couple weeks, that would be ok I guess. As long as she's gone when Bentley gets back.

I have a couple of comments in regard to this thread...

1) Uncasville is in the middle of nowhere...BUT you are only there a few months in the summertime so they don't have to have roots and settle there. Not that Hartford is a big city but you can live closer to there if that's what excites you. You are basically in between NYC and Boston so there are options to go to the BIG cities for a short commute. It's a safety net for the franchise, but I was bummed when I lived in CT and heard about the team coming and finding out they would not be playing at the XL Center in Hartford but at the Casino in Uncasville.

2) I'm not at all happy about the Bently thing BUT it's only a brief time away so I'll get over it. It will open up the door for Rachael and/Or Courntey to step through and get it done. My problem with the whole thing is that without Chiney who creates a large gap to fill, they needed all hands on deck to fill in and now they have to fill another hole.

3) I also think Faris will be brought back for the interim. If they were to Cut Danielle Adams or Jordan Hooper, Faris is not the one to keep but I'd bring back January or Hightower for the long run. I'm kind of surprised that nobody picked up Hightower but maybe they don't want to take the chance with injury.

Glad she got another chance, but kind of surprised that Miller didn't go with one of the guards he cut from camp (Faris or January) since they would have known the system.

Well, I think it's more because Fitzgerald > Faris/January.

PG: JThomas/Fitzgerald
SG: Bentley/CWilliams/Banham
SF: AThomas/Stricklen
PF: Tuck/Kizer/Adams
C: JJones/BJones

I think Bentley loses her starting job to C Williams.

I don't, even though she's a better shooter.

Just read that Courtney Williams signed for a team in Holland Very Happy
So i will be able to see her play this season. But i find it weird because they budgets in Holland are very very low and this is a pretty new team with all young upcoming players

Bear in mind that there are two players called Courtney Williams who were in the draft pool in 2016. The one now with Connecticut who came out of South Florida, and the one from Texas A&M who went undrafted and has only been in a WNBA camp or two. Seems more likely the second one would end up in Holland.

Not necessarily on this team. Jones is a project and Adams couldn't guard Chiyonofuji, so if Tuck is still hurt, Pedersen might actually get some minutes.

Pederson over Hamson. I guess Tuck will be out longer than we know.

I'm just surprised the Pederson is the best they could do for finding an injury replacement player.

If you hadn't notice Jonquel is a little on the thin side. She's a banging four ala Kizer that can help in the paint and move the ball with her passing.

Kayla Pedersen thrilled with new culture in return to Sun

Quote:
It didn’t take long for Kayla Pedersen to realize that things around the Connecticut Sun have changed since she was last with the team in 2015.

Sun's Jonquel Jones On Record-Setting Rebounding Pace

Quote:
Jones is averaging 12.8 rebounds in the first eight games and is on pace to finish the season with 435. Tina Charles has the WNBA record of 398 as a Sun rookie in 2010, a season in which she averaged 11.7.

I can only imagine how good the Sun will be with a healthy C. Ogwumike & a mid-first round pick in 2018.

PG: JThomas/Banham
SG: CWilliams/Bentley
SF: Stricklen/draft pick?
PF: AThomas/Tuck/Pederson
C: JJones/COgwumike/Kizer

Ogwumike off the bench? She thinks she owns the team. How's that gonna happen?

It'll be A Thomas at SF, playing the same way she is now.

Id use Oguimike & JJ as my posts . Thomas can slide back to the 3 and keep Tuck & B. Jones from the bench with kizer. Pederson will be the cut most likely anyway. Along with adams when the draft pick comes in .

And they have 3 draft picks in the first two rounds, plus Romero trying to make the team. Conditions will be ripe for a Banham to Minnesota trade.

Banham has seen more minutes lately, mostly due to Bentley being gone. But she's playing well. If anyone needs to be traded, it's Bentley.

Bentley is under a guaranteed contract. Doubt she'll be traded.

Next year's roster will look like this:

Jasmine Thomas/Rachel Banham
Courtney Williams/Alex Bentley
Alyssa Thomas/Shekinna Stricklen
Chiney Ogwumike/Morgan Tuck/Lynetta Kizer
Jonquel Jones/Brionna Jones
...and a draft pick.

Chiney said she is not playing overseas this winter so she'll likely come off bench until she gets her sea legs back (like she did last year). Then she'll start.

Until she starts, it'll be
Jasmine Thomas/Rachel Banham
Courtney Williams/Alex Bentley
Shekinna Stricklen/Morgan Tuck
Alyssa Thomas/Chiney Ogwumike/Lynetta Kizer
Jonquel Jones/Brionna Jones
...and a draft pick.

Gone will be:
Danielle Adams and Kayla Pedersen. Adams will be waived and Pedersen will be waived or used as trade fodder. Adams is dreadful. Pedersen isn't a scorer but she's a really good player in every other way but like Kelly Faris, she'll be pushed out of the lineup next season. The league is becoming too competitive now for players who aren't big scorers. To make it in this league, you need to do everything good.

In any event, if the team can stay relatively injury free next season and Ogwumike regains form like she did mid-way through last season, the Sun will be a team that is nearly impossible to beat. Curt Miller has become the best offensive minded coach in the league this year. Defense still needs a bit of work, like how to play defense without fouling though.

Banham has seen more minutes lately, mostly due to Bentley being gone.

You could first person not calling Banham a bust. Of course, you're now calling Zahui a bust because Laimbeer doesn't know how to use the Russian League forward of the year. Your evals tend to be very in the moment.

But she's playing well. If anyone needs to be traded, it's Bentley.

Umm, no thanks. If she's accepting of whatever her role, I don't see why she can't stay. What worries me about your statement is that Reeve said in an article that not picking Bentley was their biggest draft mistake. This article was probably back when Bentley was on a hot streak and before Sugar got good. Really, Reeve, really?

Back in 2010 you could have picked Prince over Monica Wright. Prince now paying long term dividends. In 2011, you could have picked Lavender over Amber Harris. Oops. Lavender now paying long term dividends. In 2012, my pick was Shenise Johnson, but they picked Peters. I'll toss Peters a small bone for being a part of the 2015 run and helping us get Howard, but again, Johnson & Johnson paying long term dividends. The Lynx chose Sugar Rodgers with the pick immediately after Bentley (must have been so painful just missing out on Bentley). Then they figured Sugar was a mistake and gave her away.

I'm just hoping Reeve is over any obsession with Bentley. *insert prayer hands emoticon*

I have Jasmine Thomas as this coming weeks eastern conference player of the week.

29 points and 6 assists in a win at home against Seattle.
22 points in a win on the road against Indiana.

Has there ever been 3 different players win POW on the same team before 3 weeks in a row?

This has nothing to do with the Sun team itself, but rather, their cheerleading squad! Cool

A couple of weeks ago, while watching on my DVR the Seattle Storm @ CT Sun game on ESPN2, I had noticed something missing during the telecast: the Sun's Solar Power Dance Team!

In previous games --- and I think it has been a couple of years since the Sun last hosted a nationally-televised game before then --- I would see the Solar Power dancers with their pom-poms standing by the large exit, behind the visiting team's bench. If the Sun scored, they would jump and wave their pom-poms.

But in last week's Storm/Sun game, I didn't see them at all. So, are they still around this season? Or did they change their uniforms or routines?

The Solar Power dancers are listed on the team website, albeit with limited information:

They were at the May 3rd, 2017 pre-season game. But there are a couple of guys on the squad now. Maybe they dropped the pom-poms because of that.
