Not bad for 11, but....those rims are NOT at 10 ft.

Of course not, 11 year olds don't play on a regulation 10 foot goal. At that age, they play on 9 foot.

Samantha Brunelle, the No. 1 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Terrific 25 for the 2019 class, and Francesca Belibi, who made national headlines this past season for her prolific dunking in Colorado, headline the list of 35 players who were invited by USA Basketball to the women's U16 national team trials.

What ever college Belibi picks, I hope the coach will allow her to dunk, not sure Geno would allow that so maybe she'll end up at Tennessee or Baylor.

Why wouldn't he allow it? He's one of the people who favors lower rims, presumably to make dunking more prevalent.
I'm not sure, that's the reason I said I'm not sure Geno would allow Belibi to dunk, but Moore or Stewart never dunked in game when I'm sure both could have had a chance to do so, just doesn't seem like something he would prefer his players to do.

I had NO idea. Razz Back in the 80s, I coached kids in the 8-12 age group, and they certainly played with 10 ft. hoops.

In California, 11-year-olds play on 10-foot baskets. So do 10-year-olds. So do 9-year-olds.

Pretty amazing, but....Good LORD!! If you watch that video, at the very end, it sounds like someone is being bludgeoned to death! Shocked Laughing

Re: Fran B? I REALLY love that kid's personality, as far as one can tell from short vids; and her tennis serve is of a very pure form, too. Gifted! Now. How to get her to Oklahoma.... Idea

Does anyone know if Fran is playing AAU/Summer ball? I haven't seen anything about her other then being invited to the USAB try outs later this month.

Funny thing about Ashlyn Watkins, if you look at the backboard, it reads: NO DUNKING.

Belibi can leap, but she tried to dunk four times in warmups just now and never really got close.

Of course, she's already had two 90-minute sessions today, plus two hard days previous.

There are 64 left with three more sessions to go. Team will be announced Monday at 8 a.m. Central time.

She may not have made those dunks but she impressed well enough to be one of the 20 finalists.

Belibi is an interesting case. She's only played the game for about a year, she's incredibly athletic and plays very well for one with such limited experience.

She also showed flashes of brilliance, followed by segments when you didn't even know she was on the court.

I think keeping her makes sense because of her potential, and also because conceivably she could play for Cameroon, where her parents are from. As always, though, the most difficult thing about evaluating a player in any sport is trying to determine when they will stop improving. Belibi clearly could improve a great deal over the next few years, as opposed to others who have been playing year-round since age 10.

Thanks for the review of Belibi, I think she'll end up going to Stanford, seems like a good fit.

She's probably newer to the game than most of them, so think in terms of potential. Team USA is a big step.

I think Shades has it right -- she was on the team, as far as the media folks there could tell, not because of her overall performance but her flashes of pure potential. Her inexperience, in a sense, worked for her, though some of the purely athletic things she did were exceptional.

Putting her on the team also insured that she won't wind up playing for the Cameroons or somewhere else.

Belibi’s final choices in alphabetical order
Harvard, Notre Dame, Princeton, and Stanford

I knew she had Stanford written all over her.

I'm a little disappointed not to see Vanderbilt on that list. Steph can't seem to sell the SEC school to a player truly focusing on academics.

So if she chooses Havard, that means she’s only in it for the best diploma. Most likely isn’t looking for a long term career in basketball. How many Havard grads have played in the WNBA? Although with her level of athleticism, she wouldn’t be your typical Harvard grad. She’s brains and a beast.

If she chooses Princeton, it’s kind of the same thing as Havard. Although Blake Dietrick has been consistent in her effort to have a career in basketball.

If she chooses Notre Dame or Stanford, then she may be open to a long term career in basketball.
