Global warming
Why the world has taken to chilies
Quote:
Tesco, Britain's biggest supermarket chain, recently added a new pepper to its vegetable shelves: the Dorset naga. Inhaling its vapour makes your nose tingle. Touching it is painful; cooks are advised to wear gloves. It is the only food product that Tesco will not sell to children. By the standards of other chilies, it is astronomically hot. On the commonly used Scoville scale (based on dilution in sugar syrup to the point that the capsaicin becomes no longer noticeable to the taster) it rates 1.6m units, close to the 2m score of pepper spray used in riot control.

Mmm... delicious topic.
I don't llike my taste buds being burned off but I do love a bit of chili in my food. Have been enjoying chili chocolate for quite a while now, and just a month ago bought my first ever tub of chocolate chili icecream, which is deeeelicious!

The Brits of all people have access to this chili pepper? I spent several months in GB in the 80's and my impression was that the Brits were vehemently opposed to flavor of any sort.

Anyhow, I have SO got to get me some of these!!! I'm to the point now that I not only put chilies in everything I prepare that isn't sweet. I also eat between 10-20 raw peppers with sea salt every day - Hot Hungarian Wax are the best "snacking peppers" for this. Sadly, I can't find them in Colorado so I have my sister overnight them to me from Pittsburgh. Red Fresno Chilies are also delicious raw.

I wish more folks could enjoy the tastes and health benefits of all these "Fruits of the Gods."

Those Chocolate Chilli Tim Tams they had a few years back were excellent! I don't think America has taken to this trend yet but maybe soon

Yeah, I loved those things too. Probably my all-time favourite Tim Tam variety. Dark chocolate & chili is a great combination.
I think I must be in the early stages of the addiction mentioned in the article (unlike KatValeska, who is in the deep end by the sound of it!)

I was given a bar of chili chocolate for Xmas - dark (my fave), spicy, wonderful!

I love hot - I wonder of Fresh and Easy (owned by Tesco) will carry these chiles?

I love to eat raw ground horseradish until my nose burns, sinuses sing, and eyes water. Love. It.

I'm not much for hot sauce but I love the flavor of jalapenos in food. A couple of favorites.

Jalapeno cheese burgers.

Grilled jumbo shrimp stuffed with pepper jack cheese and jalapeno slices.

I just saw in my local news that Bunsters Hot Sauce is now available globally via Amazon.com
Very happy for the "Perth Sauce Queen", as not only is it delicious stuff, but her online presence (Web Site, Facebook, Twitter) is pretty damn funny too.
