getting rid of Dolson was such a huge step for DC defense.

Wondering if Chicago has had the highest average team height in league history in this game. Have to be them or the Mercury from 2014 season.

Yeah, especially since she's essentially become the player who Stocks is trying to turn Breland into. Still so much room for her to grow too.

Anyway, very solid loss tonight. I'm pleased at this start to the season. Love the way the Sky turned a third quarter lead into a fourth quarter double digit deficit. Big fan of how Tamera Young shot the ball 21 times and Boyette once. Harris (-13 in 8 minutes) is looking like a solid contributor already, so thankful we kept her over a first-round pick!!

Or some team with Margo Dydek on it

Hey, every time the Sky lose a game we need to yell this. Wilson! Wilson! WILSON! Very Happy

Don't get down on Stocks yet. The Bears can teach a Masters class on how to f*** up a draft. Laughing

Haixia + Leslie-era Sparks?

This line-up with Breland, as SF is going nowhere. Bench (trade, cut) Dolson. use Breland on her natural position, especially now, when she began hitting three. Try Kaleah as starting SF. But please, no more Bigmamasteph. She is slower, than Paris!

Looked like Amber Stocks didn't like the question she got in the pre-game interview, or she doesn't like the interviewer, or she doesn't like being interviewed. In any event, they normally ask at least two questions and Stocks appeared to cut it short after one, to the surprise of the interviewer. She seemed to act like she had just been asked a difficult or inappropriate question.

Quote:
Trisha Babcock-McGraw - All right, well Amber welcome to Chicago, welcome to our broadcast. This is your first home game as a WNBA game head coach. Take us through your emotions, how are you feeling?

Amber Stocks: Oh it's just a game, so we're gonna roll up our sleeves, I'm about to go hit the board and draw up a play and get ready to go. Thank you.

Trisha Babcock-McGraw (with Stocks already walking away): Thank you. Good luck, all right guys back to you.

After that, the play-by-play guy says: "Steven you've gotten a chance to talk to Amber through the last few weeks, seems like she's all business."

Steven Bardo: "Yeah, she's all business and you know she's trying to establish herself in a new situation. And that 15 inches from the assistant coaches seat to the head coaches seat, is hot. So, you know a little more focus and she's trying to implement her system. Let's see if they can get it done tonight."

Later on the play-by-play guys says "Amber Stocks wants to preach defense, but she also wants a big lineup. How important is Stefanie Dolson going to be to a bigger lineup".

Trisha Babcock-McGraw later quotes Cappie Pondexter "One of the first things I noticed first about Amber is how no-nonsense she is, how detail oriented she is and how much she emphasizes defense".

I saw that when I went to check for how many active players had a G in their position field (3: Epps, Pondexter, Copper). With the chance of an ankle turn or foul trouble I am surprised they cut Jankoska before they had other guards in place, but she is clearly counting Young as a F/G (and probably Hampton as well).

Um, Young shot 21 times and made five. Boyette shot once and made one.

Meanwhile, the Dream backcourt went off, with Clarendon and Hayes going 15 for 27 with 12 rebounds and 12 assists (though 7 turnovers) in 62 minutes. In this game, at least, the small forward issue was not nearly as important as the Sky's inability to defend at guard -- though maybe Young's defensive reputation is better served at the three. I don't think anyone believes Pondexter can defend at this point in her career, so Chicago needs someone in the backcourt who can slow down opponents like Clarendon and Hayes.

Hopefully Sloot is back for their next game. Dolson shouldn't be starting at PF & Breland shouldn't be starting at SF, we've all said that enough times. Their starters should be: Sloot-Pondexter-Young-Breland-Boyette.
