they've got more sense than Americans.

Macron kicks Le Pen's ass.

Or there was a vastly better alternative available.

The lowest voter turnout since 1974 doesn't exactly scream "inspiring candidate" to me, but at least the French know a dud when they see one.
That's a relief.

One of today's talking heads employed the metaphor that the "populist wave" that's washed over America and Britain has petered out in France. Actually, the Dutch managed it first, but yes, Good News. God Bless France and her many travails.

I don't understand why some extreme right, near neo-nazi party that's always been considered a freak show is suddenly called "populist" as if we're talking Robert La Follette.

But they doubled their highest previous vote total, so I'm not sure they "petered out" either.

It was a great victory for globalists and mass-migrationists.

Trump and Sanders were tarred by the press as being "populists" so they (press) should be at least thanking Trump for going with the rich in his healthcare plan and his coming tax proposal and not taking a populist stance on either.

Nope. The biggest reason given by voters at exit polling for voting for Macron was to defeat Le Pen. Additionally, the French can smell a rat better than Americans.

France handles its presidential elections better than the U.S.. There is a 48-hr press blackout prior to the election. The election is held on the weekend.

Also, there is no organized funded effort by wealthy industrialists and instituted by one of only 2 major political parties to suppress "liberal" votes.

Yeah, limits on contributions, press and candidate blackouts. That First Amendment freedom of speech sure is a pesky thing. The French are so fortunate they don't have to deal with such a thing.

Since when is a corporation a person deserving of free speech, and since when is bribing a politician free speech?

Pesky indeed.

In the US, since at least 1886 when the Supreme Court unanimously said so in Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad Co.

It was a rhetorical question, obviously, used to highlight one of the biggest problems American citizens endure.

Buckley v Valeo (1976) was another SCOTUS fuck up.

FWIW, Macron is 39 years old, the youngest President in French history. However, his wife is 64. She has three children from a previous marriage.

She's his former high school drama teacher. Supposedly they first hooked up when he was 16.

When he was 18 he moved to Paris, she left her family and followed him.

Interesting this took place in France. If it happened in the U.S., that would have been a scandal and a public outcry.

Still, props to him for being a young head of state and a "cougar" for a wife! Wink
