Laimbeer should make R.Allen the starting sf and let her sink or swim. |
Lots of sinking early on.

Kai James didn't play. Probably not a good sign.
Didn't Wiese have 8 points in the first quarter? She still had eight when the game ended.
Odyssey Sims 2-7, picking up where she left off in Dallas, I guess. |
I suspect Amanda is ready and Kai is the sacrifice.

I'd be surprised to see Tina tomorrow or Kia for 26 minutes. James will probably get some PT against Chicago. She and Bennett are basically auditioning to replace Vaughn at mid-season. There's an argument for keeping them around for extra development time even if they have no chance at a real roster spot.

I think Raincocke-Ekunwe is going to make the roster. I'm not sure who will make it between Burdick and Allen. Boyd seemed to do decent with 3 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds in 11 minutes. She only took two shots, that's not really enough to judge whether her shooting has improved.
Based on today's game:
New York
Prince/Boyd/Hartley
Rodgers/Zealous
Allen/Burdick
Charles/Zahui B/Raincocke-Ekunwe
Vaughn/Stokes
Los Angeles
Sims/Gray
Beard/Williams/Weise
Carson/Samuelson
Parker/Jackson-Jones
Ogwumike/Lavender/Grant-Allen |
I would be very surprised if Lindsay Allen isn't among the 12 players on the Liberty roster.

Allen may be the player Bill wants to bring back in when Prince is out. No cuts until Thursday, likely, with the second game tomorrow. But it looks like Barbee & James will be cut first.

I don't see Alston sticking either. Too tentative.

So, I followed the first half, went away, then came back after the game was over. I looked at the final stats, went away again, then came back for another look at the numbers. Lo and behold, they're different. For one thing, the Liberty gained 5 points in the 3rd Quarter. So, the final score is now 81-65 instead of 76-65. Also, it looks like they stiffed Burdick the first time around. For one thing, they gave her new credit for a 3-pointer. Who knows what will happen in another hour?

The most exciting games are the ones where the scores changes after the game is over. Let's hope that tomorrow morning it's still true that the Liberty won the game.

I thought Alston lacked the athleticism and explosion needed at the position last year. Same deal this year?

Agler gave Karli Samuelson the most minutes - 29:00. Surprising that he is taking such a long look at her. In fact, with 7 other players getting less than 10 minutes, it looks like he is planning on her being on the team.

Rebecca Tobin led LA in minutes in their first preseason game last year (and started all three of their preseason games), so I wouldn't read too much into it.
That said, there's at least three spots on the end of LA's bench that could go to practically anyone. So it's certainly a possibility. |
