How does an injured player fit into the limit of 15? If Allen is not ready to go just yet. |
I would imagine she wouldn't count against the limit if she is unable to participate

So, I count 21 players. Assuming that Stokes, Zellous, Prince, Zahui, and Vaughn are overseas, that leaves 16 -- one over the limit. I wonder who isn't officially in camp. Will Tina be lurking around as an observer? Did someone change their mind or get cut already? |
Please forgive my ignorance and enlighten me. Am I understanding correctly that a team can only have a maximum of 15 players at training camp? Does that mean that if one of the five who are overseas comes back on Day X that someone has to go? Many thanks. |
That's correct. The day a player arrives into camp, someone needs to be cut. |
Thanks for clarifying this.

Barbee's Spanish team, Ferrol, has games on its website. So I'm watching. She's good at some things such as passing, rebounding and defense. She has good wing size and has decent hops and quickness to the ball for rebounding. Her passing is quite good. However, she's unselfish to a fault and is having enormous difficulty beating defenders one on one. If she is struggling in this game to do it, how's she going to do it in the WNBA? I think she'd be a nice developmental project on a 13 player roster where you could hide her for a season and develop her game. On NY's roster, the 12th player might well have to play some SF. Based on what I see in this game, I don't see it. She's strong on D and is successfully boxing out against bigger players, so the strength is there. But you won't make a WNBA team if you can't either occasionally break down defenses or shoot the lights out.
However, the talent level on the floor is weak and her team isn't running at all. Sometimes players respond differently to better talent around them. As a teammate she seems exceptional. Her hustle is unparalleled in this game and she plays with zero selfishness. So I guess we will see.

Though she did average 13 ppg so maybe I'm seeing a down game.

Would I be correct in assuming that this means arrives in camp and participates"?
If someone shows up on crutches, do they still count?

Day 1 of training camp starts tomorrow! #liberty #NY |
Nothing about not being there or sitting out, so I'm assuming everything is OK.
Also, she signed to play with Lyon in France next winter.

Hey NY fans! I just wanted to pop in and say how good Piph has been looking as of late. Of course, her squad won the Euroleague title last week (with no losses). She was definitely key for them in the championship game win. Now, UMMC and Kursk are playing in the Russian league tournament. Kursk lost game 1 but It should be a fun series!

Thank you. I watched the final. She is clearly 100% back. Her lateral movement was really good, her defense was representative of her position and her offensive game was complete. Having a period of 16 months from surgery until now has aided her recovery. I'm thankful. As we know from Rebecca Lobo, some people don't recover. As we know from Essence Carson, a player can recover well enough to play, but without the explosiveness they had prior to the injury.
So knock on wood we can stay healthy this year.

She was utterly invisible in the EuroLeague semis, when Vadeeva and McCoughtry dragged them through, just for the sake of comparison.
But yeah, physically she seems fine at this point. |

Not worried from that standpoint. Her stats in Russia have always been spotty. Her role in NY will be expanded. The physical part was my concern. And thankfully she looks better than November/December when she was barely able to play defense at all. It'll never be DPOY worthy but she looks physically recovered.

The Liberty Facebook page already has an interview with Tina that has a bit of practice in the background. There are also some pictures from camp. Allen is definitely participating. As was indicated on the Shoni picture thread, it doesn't seem like she is around. Obviously, Shoni could just be out of camera view, but it would be pretty coincidental to be missing from every shot.

Actually, I take that back. I watched a bunch of Ball State games last year while following Natalie Fontaine. I do remember a 6-5 center who had some decent offensive skills. I just didn't remember her name was Renee Bennett. |
Unless she has a total meltdown in camp, which I doubt she will, Renee Bennett may prove to be a real sleeper keeper. First of all, she is taller than 6'5'. She is closer to 6'7". Unlike many large women, she is very agile and can catch serious air when she jumps. She has the warrior mentality when it comes to chasing down loose balls -- she will fight tooth and nail for each and every one of them. All she knows is busting her ass -- either on the court or in the classroom. She graduated last December and is well on the way to getting his Master's degree. Did I mention she can score? Bennett was ranked 34th in the nation at the end of the season for FG% and has a lethal three point shot. Yes, a true center who can shoot the three. Best of all, she is consistant and puts up a sexy line just about every game.

She had only 31 blocked shots in 32 games. That's not a lot in mid-major when you're talking about a potential WNBA center.

Her team was eliminated on Thursday. Barbee is in the pictures from today's practices.

Okorie isn't listed on the training camp roster:

Here's another puzzle. The training camp roster just posted says that 19 players will come to camp. Chinwe Okorie isn't listed, but there are still 20 names. Not 19.

From the pictures, I think Okorie was there. Sucks they don't wear numbers during camps.

Take the 20 names, subtract Schimmel and add Okorie. If you look at the stuff on Facebook -- two sets of 10 pictures, one from each practice, plus interviews with Tina and Bill where practice clips are spliced in -- you can identify all 15 players who were expected to be there.
