Not terrible. As far as the ongoing regional attendance issues, the trick is having the committee commit prioritizing travel for teams that draw. Rewards teams regionally with fans. Avoid situations like Lexington with no Louisville or South Carolina; Stockton without Stanford or UCLA. Avoid OKC all together.

Quick thoughts on specific sites:

Potentially great if the Pacific NW teams, esp. Oregon and Oregon State, can keep up their winning ways and pulling in fans. Gonzaga would travel, too, if they can compete for a berth in the Sweet 16. Portland last hosted in 2000.

Good to keep games in Texas. Interesting to try a smaller arena in Dallas with Texas and Baylor in the hunt to play there - maybe a better environment than in 2016 when 6-7,000 fans made it feel cavernous in the AT&T center.

Fort Wayne did well two seasons ago hosting Notre Dame and Maryland in the ACC/Big Ten challenge and McGraw said the site should host in the NCAAs. So good to see that happening - and ACTION based on recommendations.

And very smart to keep regionals in Greensboro/Greenville area with South Carolina, Tennessee, NC State, Duke (and maybe one day UNC again?) doing well and within driving distances.

Albany did incredibly well when UConn played there in 2015. Smart to reward sites that can draw - and you're not too far from programs like Syracuse, Penn State, that could potentially challenge for regionals in the coming years.

Chicago was popular for a few folks here. Why not try it? Lots of girls basketball in the area. Great for DePaul obviously, but also Notre Dame and BT programs - not sure it will draw that well, but can't imagine putting teams like Notre Dame, Tennessee, Michigan State and DePaul in a 10,000 arena in the middle of Chicago that you wouldn't be able to fill more than half of it. Sky could cross-promote the sh%t out of it if they know what's up.

Good to see the committee trying new things.

Good to see that Fort Wayne was chosen.

Half the regionals in 2018 are west of the Mississippi. That's disproportionately more than the teams.

In 2017 and 2016 half the regionals were west of the Mississippi.

It might be worth doing a study, but it may well be that the west is OVER represented.

What's up with Bridgeport and Albany getting to host East Regionals too many times in 2000s? Albany 4, Bridgeport more than 10 times in 2000s?

Bridgeport has been a regional site 4 times since 2000. 2006 2013 2016 & 2017. I believe that in 2013 Bridgeport was a last minute replacement for Trenton when N Jersey was intending to legalize sports betting.

So Bridgeport has really only been selected 3 times in the 21 years between 2000 and 2020.

By 2020 Albany will have been picked 4 times. Sites are chosen by bid. The northeast simply supports wcbb to a greater degree than many other parts of the country and arena operators can actually make a profit on a womens regional.
