I'm happy for Shades.
But does this mean one of Fangbenle or Osahor, or both?

Whatever adds up to 11 players, so one.

Very pleased for Tupaea to have WNBA draftee on her resume.
When you're the last pick in an awful draft, there's really no expectation of ending up on a roster, but as far as diamond in the rough picks go, I have to say it's a savvy pick by the Lynx.
Tahlia has been around aussie national teams for quite a while, so I forget how young she still is. Her WNBL impact has also been limited by some injuries. She's a natural basketball talent in a non-traditional basketball physique. I've always thought of her as a combo guard, but since Leilani Mitchell landed in Sydney this season and played pretty much 40mpg she played the SG role this season. In terms of comparisons, maybe Shoni-lite is the closest I can come up with, but less Rez-ball, more hustle. I like her, and think she has real potential.
Congrats, Tahlia!

Sydney University Flames teen Tahlia Tupaea drafted to WNBA club Minnesota Lynx

The 19-year-old Penrith product was shocked at how quickly it has happened. She won't be making the move to Minnesota this year with the Lynx wanting her to play through the next WNBL season before heading over in 2018. |
|
Thanks for the rundown Luuuc.
How far down the Aussie Nat'l team depth chart would you project her? Will be nice to follow the kid over the next few yrs. |
The Opals "depth" chart at the guard positions currently reads as follows:
Leilani Mitchell, Erin Phillips, ?????
With those two at the back end of their careers, the door is wide open. While the Opals tend to shy away from youth, I think they will also be trying to fast-track the progress of players like Tupaea & Kristy Wallace in the national program, because the current experienced options we have are not particularly inspiring to me in terms of competing for an Olympic medal.
So yeah, Tahlia will be worth keeping an eye on next WNBL season.
(or if you're super-keen, unlike me, over the aussie winter in the SEABL, where she plays for the Sydney Uni Sparks)

Knowing the Chicago Sky had interest, the Lynx sent Keisha Hampton to the Sky in exchange for Osahor, drafted with the 21st pick Thursday. Osahor will open camp April 23 competing with Temi Fagbenli to be a backup post on a Lynx team with championship aspirations. |
Quote: |
"She is strong in the post,'' Reeve said of the 6-2 Osahor, who led the nation in rebounding (15.8 per game) and double-doubles (30). She had 10 or more rebounds in 31 games, had 20 or more eight times and had a Pac-12 record 30 in a game against Washington State. |
Quote: |
"She is deceptively quick,'' Reeve said. "She has an extremely high basketball IQ, which is appealing to us. And she's a tremendous passer out of the post. We have such great cutters, we felt it was such a good fit.'' |
Quote: |
"That shouldn't be understated,'' Reeve said of Osahor's three-point range. "You have to go guard her.'' |
Depending on what kind of defense let's say PHX is playing, she could pull Griner away from the basket and find a cutting Maya Moore. If DRob is guarding her, just shoot right over her.
Quote: |
Fagbenle did not play last season while finishing her graduate degree at USC. Born to a Nigerian family living in Baltimore, the family moved to Great Britain, where she grew up. At 6-5, she is an intriguing prospect who impressed the Lynx in a recent workout. She started her college career at Harvard, graduated in three years, then transferred to USC for her final year of eligibility. |
Quote: |
Osahor, Washington's second-leading scorer last season (behind Plum, of course), was second on the team with 140 assists. She became the second player in school history to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. |

Fagbenli & Osahor are two very different types of players. If the Lynx didn't bring in Pierson, I'd say both would make the roster. But I'm thinking Fagbenli is the one to get cut.

You never know, maybe once she gets Osahor into camp Reeve will be like "you gotta be kidding me." Reeve is known for a short fuse and low patience with rookies. But hopefully she'll give Osahor time to build some chemistry with the team. Chemistry is an important part of her passing game.

Cruz was basically my 12th player. So they should end up with:
PG: Whalen/Jones
SG: Augustus/Montgomery
SF: Moore/Perkins
PF: Brunson/Howard/Pierson
C: Fowles/Osahor

LOVED that ESPN did this for Osahor. Was a very interesting analysis.

Lynx sign Shao Ting

MIN should have the advantage in the China pipeline. I believe they have a minority owner from China?

Minn looks almost set to me, can any of these new signees breakthrough below
Whalen/A. Jones
Augustus/Montgomery
Moore/Perkins
Brunson/Howard/Pierson
Fowles/Osahor or Fagbenle
Also is ther any chance with Pierson on board that Howard might see some minutes at the SF spot as well as the PF spot?

I know you probably do your depth chart like that for aesthetics, but I like seeing it more literal (especially for my team). AJones is unlikely to be the first backup for Whalen.
Whalen/Montgomery
Augustus/Perkins/AJones
Moore
Brunson/Howard
Fowles/Pierson/(Osahor, Fagbenle, or Hayes)
Fingers crossed for Osahor
I think she could have a following of people fascinated by her
Best-selling jersey for Lynx? Hard to beat Moore, I suppose
What is it about the #35/#36 pick for the Lynx?
Asia Taylor makes the team
Walitea Rolle very nearly makes the team (Reeve didn't want to cut her)
Now Fagbenle is threatening to make the team

Yeah I do like the roster to look prettier with a certain shape. Montgomery is definitely a PG and going to get more minutes than Jones, but I hate having no one backing up the three.
Also, the reason I asked about Howard at the SF spot is to get both her and Pierson minutes, and I wouldn't feel too confident playing either at the Center spot. That is why I kept putting Osahor at the 12 spot in my mocks, someone has to back up Fowles 7-10 minutes a night and I didn't think Pierson or Howard were right for the spot, I also had forgotten about Fagbenle.

UM's Keyona Hayes signs with Minnesota Lynx
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-hurricanes/fl-sp-keyona-hayes-lynx-20170419-story.html
Quote: |
As a redshirt senior this past season, the 6-foot-1 Hayes averaged 10.3 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds per game. She finished her Miami career 21st on the Hurricanes all-time scoring list with 1,141 points and was ninth in rebounding with 754 boards.
She also had 14 double-doubles during her time at Miami. |
Osahor had 42 career double-doubles, 30 in her senior year alone.
Quote: |
With Hayes’ signing and Motley’s being drafted by Indiana, the Hurricanes are set to have two former players and teammates in a WNBA camp for the first time since 2012 when Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams were both top-20 draft picks.
Hayes is also the first Miami player to sign a free agent deal since Shawnice Wilson did the same in 2013, also with the Lynx. |

Shoa Ting doesn't really look 6' to me. She has a helacious spin move and China/Euro-step. Intriguing prospect, but there's really no room for her. I wonder what the Lynx are thinking? Have they figured out a way to go with 12?

The Dream would have room for her, if it doesn't work out in the Twin Cities.
