That is 9 not including Peterson, Hamson, Adams, Stricklen, Faris, O'neil ? (is Jen O'neil in Conn) pick #8, #13, #16, #25 and C. Ogwumike
You need at least one more big preferably a center, and one more ball handler at least a kind of PG type add this to above and you've got 11, if you don't suspend Chiney you are done. |
Yeah. Too many 2s and a pg i don't care for. |
Which is why I think someone like Wiese or Peterson would be top priority. That post rotation isn't great but I'd rather have Tuck at the 4 than Banham or Bentley at the 1...they need another playmaker.

Even with the glut of post players Connecticut started last season with, Tuck was used as a 4 about 90% of the time. So that changes the balance a little. There's also Hightower to throw into the mix. They'd be silly to count on her at this point, but it's another guard/wing/pseudo-point-guard to add to the list.
I'd say at this stage the most likely group is:
J.Thomas/Banham
Bentley/C. Williams/Hightower
A.Thomas/Stricklen
Kizer/Tuck/Gray
J. Jones/(Kizer sliding)
...then suspend Chiney and add the #8 pick for the final spot. But I agree that it looks kinda crowded. Not necessarily good, but crowded. And it only gets more so when they take Chong at 13 or 16 and shoehorn her in as Faris Mark II... |

McCall at #8, Chong at #16
J. Thomas/Banham/Chong
Bentley/C. Williams
A. Thomas/Stricklen
Kizer/Tuck/Gray
J. Jones/McCall
I think they would keep Stricklen who played for them last season under Miller than go with a 3rd rookie or Hightower. Do you really suspend Chiney though to open up that 12th spot?
The irony about keeping Chong as that fan favorite UConn appreciation player is they actually need a PG.
Or you could take Wiese at #8 and give her Stricklen's spot, and replace McCall with Hamson or Petersen, but McCall can play the 4 or the 5 and has a 3 pt shot, she could actually fit nicely in Conn.

As I noted above, CON could deal Banham to a very interested party to free up some space. I wonder how many fans of that team would object to dealing their first round in 2018 straight up.

Yes, the roster is crowded w/ mediocrity.
If Allen is on the board and they take Chong, I'm done. No more UConn mascots please.

Romero is committed to the Spanish National Team and won't play in the WNBA this summer, per Miller.

Cooper and Jones are definitely taking some hopefuls jobs
J. Thomas/Banham
Bentley/C. Williams
A. Thomas/Cooper or Stricklen
Kizer/Tuck/Gray
J. Jone/B. Jones
that is 11 pay Chiney or keep those Huskie's fans happy with Faris, or slide Strick to the 2 guard spot.

Pretty clever of Miller. It looks like he left it up to Chiney whether or not she'd be suspended, but I'm sure she got the "12 players would be the best for the team" speech. A little guilt goes a long way.

Thrilled to hear this. So many players in the past have wanted out of Connecticut, but now we have Jasmine Thomas, Alex Bentley and now Chiney Ogwumike all signed to multi-year contracts. Glad to know that these players are happy to be in Connecticut. Even with Chiney's injury issues, every other team in the league would take her in an instant. Since Miller took over, the players seem happy for once. Getting rid of Kelsey Bone helped clear up the air in the locker room too. All the bad seeds have been disposed off.

Considering her injuries, I'm surprised it's multi-year. Sun betting everything on Chiney?

Faris should be gone. I think Adams makes the team assuming she's in better shape then when she arrive in San Antonio last season.
PG: J. Thomas/Banham
SG: Bentley/C. Williams/Stricklen
SF: A. Thomas/Tuck
PF: Kizer/Adams/Gray
C: J. Jones/B. Jones

Last thing they need to worry about is capspace..

Connecticut Sun’s Rachel Banham healthy, ready to contribute

“Chiney is a huge piece to our puzzle that we need, but we have a lot of good talent and young talent too,” Banham said. “Courtney came in (after being traded for Kelsey Bone) and was playing incredible, I can’t wait for Morgan to be back, JJ is great and her offseason has been great so I am looking forward to see how she does. There are veteran pieces, Jaz (Thomas) played great at the end of the year, she played better than anybody thought she was going to last year so that was exciting. We could be really good, we have to continue to grow, we have another year under our belts.” |
Sounds like Tuck isn't ready yet?

Sun coach and general manager Curt Miller said he plans to play it safe with Banham and Tuck in the early going even though both are expected to be good to go for the start of training camp. He knows that his team will be relying on the two of them so he isn’t going to push them too hard, too fast. |

In the category of rumors that sound legit....
Bentley in a walking boot after tweaking ankle?
That doesn't sound too serious but....
Tuck had a scope 10 days ago? That might put her time line at like a month into the season. Something up with Tuck seems to be confirmed in the bolded part of the article in the previous post.

I think it is interesting that everyone seems to be sold on Morgan Tuck as a full-time 3 when she has literally never played anything but the 4.
