Two weeks until the draft. Any guesses who gets invited? Locks should be: Plum, SWK, B. Jones, A. Jones, Coates, A. Peterson, Coffey.

I liked it when the Mohegan Sun hosted the WNBA Draft. There were lots of people there, besides, as Toad455 suggested, it felt like a huge event. When they had in the ESPN studios there were moments of dead silence (like that of a mortuary or a funeral) in between the draft picks and the applause.

Having in an arena setting with lots of fans there, just like they do in the NFL Draft or NBA Draft, seems more merrier.

I remember when the WNBA Draft would take place one or two days after the Women's NCAA Championship Game, and held at the city where the Women's Final Four was. (Examples: in the years when Cleveland and Tampa hosted it.)

The WNBA Draft is not even mentioned on their upcoming events schedule. Perhaps because it is "not open to the public".

Yeah, way to go WNBA...to distance your fans further! Rolling Eyes

WHAT'S THE STORY?

This is Samsung 837, where technology and culture collide.

Located in the heart of the Meatpacking district in NYC, Samsung 837 combines art, fashion, technology, and sport in unprecedented ways. It’s not a store, but a new kind of place filled with ideas, experiences, and Samsung’s cutting edge devices.

Samsung 837 is where anyone can try out virtual reality, take part in interactive art installations, and see a larger-than-life, three-story screen. It’s home to live music performances, exclusive screenings, and radio recordings.

The space was designed by WonderWall Inc. and features an amphitheater area, VR tunnel, DJ booth, customer service and experience area, and café.

Come say hello.

Someone with meat packing skills?

I guess I would add Wiese, Osahor, Epps.

So...if not open to the public why not simply have it in the ESPN studios. Seems like it would be just as good and probably cheaper.

possibles in no particular order depending on how many they want to invite:
Tori Jankoska G Michigan State
Shayla Cooper F Ohio State
Leticia Romero G Florida State
Lindsay Allen G Notre Dame
Sydney Wiese G Oregon State
Evelyn Akhator F Kentucky
Makayla Epps G Kentucky
Chantel Osahor F Washington
Erica McCall F Stanford

These are my bets for the first 16 picks or so.

I'm a little reluctant to add Osahor because I think it's quite possible she'd be getting the sitting-there-the-longest award.

If they invited Walton last year, they'll probably invite Osahor this year.

Myrtle, you have Wiese listed twice ; )

How many people have been invited to the draft and have ended up never playing a single minute in the WNBA (regular season)? and does it matter?

fixed. guess that's why I thought there were 16, and couldn't figure out why I was counting 17. Anyway I think they'll probably only invite 10-12 max but it's hard to figure which 4-6 to drop from that list.

I guess for me the last ones in would be:
Osahor, Akhator, Allen and Romero....but I'm not sure. I think Allen could go higher than most of us think plus there is something about having a ND player there. In fact they could invite Chong, though that would have been more likely at Mohegan. Also I may rate Jankoska higher than the scouts do so she could also be one left behind.

I wonder if they will reduce the number of invites this year since it is a pretty lacklustre draft and maybe they are doing things more on the cheap these days.

I surmise that Samsung offered to host it for free in exchange for free advertising... Confused

I have a feeling it's more about being state of the art. Maybe it'll show up in the television production. Prepared to be wowed by the usually drab draft, even with a less than exciting draft class.
