Who will make the most 3pt shots this season?

After the first round of the NCAA tournament, for players who are in a post-season tournament and who have a chance to win, the standings look like this (* = season over):

122* - Tori "the gurus ignore me" Jankoska, Mich. St.

116* - Darby Maggard, Belmont

113 - Asia Durr, L'ville

112 - Katie Lou Samuelson, UConn

110 - Kelsey Mitchell, Oh. St.

107 - Jessica Kovatch, St. Fran. (in WBI)

106 - Kelsey Plum, Wash.

101 - Sydney Wiese, Oreg. St.

100 - Precious Hall, JMU (in WNIT)

Nice to see Precious in that list! One WNBA draft calculation I saw has her going fairly high in the second round and calls her a "creative scorer" which she certainly is. Sometimes she gets a little too creative for her own good and it doesn't work, but she's had to carry this team much of the time this year. And there were a lot of teams that had NO answer for her, among them Tennessee and Rutgers. The CAA knows her, but outside the CAA she's very much an unknown quantity.

Thanks. I'll post an update on all of them after today's NCAA games. STB, if you could keep watching Hall that would be helpful.

I'll be keeping up with her just as long as JMU is playing. She's our bae!

On Friday night Precious broke JMU's existing single season scoring record, previously held by Dawn Evans. I don't know what the 3 point record is but I'm pretty sure she holds it Smile She even has her own special cheer....whenever she makes one, the band chants "That's our Precious! That's our Precious!"

With JMU's loss to Villanova in the WNIT, Precious Hall ended her season with 108 3FG's made.

The NCAA1 season record is 129, set last season by Syracuse's Brianna Butler.

Asia Durr and Katie Lou Samuelson, both currently with 114, are pursuing their schools' season records: 118 by Shoni Schimmel and 121 by Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis.

Kelsey Mitchell, currently at 113, is pursuing her own records of 127 as a freshman and 126 as a sophomore.

With a comparable senior year, she's on track to obliterate KML's NCAA1 career record of 398.

Not too shabby. And the one she made to force the game into OT was a thing of beauty. Goodbye, Precious, we will miss you greatly!

After the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and other tourney games as of Saturday, March 25:

122* - Tori Jankoska, Mich. St.
119* - Asia Durr, L'ville
116* - Darby Maggard, Belmont
116 - Katie Lou Samuelson, UConn
115* - Kelsey Mitchell, Oh. St.
115* - Kelsey Plum, Wash.
110* - Jessica Kovatch, St. Fran.
108* - Precious Hall, JMU
103* - Sydney Wiese, Oreg. St.

* = season over

So, the only remaining question this season is how far Samuelson can now go in her remaining one, two or three games.

Durr's five 3FG's in her final game allowed her to break Shoni Schimmel's Louisville season record of 118.

Kelsey Mitchell has 368 in three years, only 30 behind KML's four year record of 398.

Michigan's Katelynn Flaherty is up to 103 after making 7 today. 110 is the season record for U-M. Katelynn already picked up the career record several weeks ago.

After the NCAA Tournament Elite 8 and other tourney games as of Monday, March 27, nothing has changed except we can add Katelynn Flaherty to the live list. She's in the WNIT FF.

122* - Tori Jankoska, Mich. St.
119* - Asia Durr, L'ville
116* - Darby Maggard, Belmont
116 - Katie Lou Samuelson, UConn
115* - Kelsey Mitchell, Oh. St.
115* - Kelsey Plum, Wash.
110* - Jessica Kovatch, St. Fran.
108* - Precious Hall, JMU
103 - Katelynn Flaherty, Mich. (WNIT)
103* - Sydney Wiese, Oreg. St.

* = season over

Katie Lou Samuelson was 0-4 in the Elite 8 game against Oregon and has generally been sucking eggs from the arc during the Big Dance.

Bonnie Samuelson of Stanford is still alive with 96.

Bonnie may still be a deadeye shooter, but she is studying optometry these days. You mean Karlie.

Yes, thank you.

There are two other players in the top 10 I haven't listed because this topic started out as being limited to players in post-season tournaments who had a practical chance of rising to #1. The two are Ciara Gregory of Charlotte, currently in 9th place with 106, and Courtney Woods of Northern Illinois, currently tied for 10th (with Flaherty) with 105.

I had high hopes for Tori Jankoska (B1G camaraderie) in the three point shootout last night. I think her score was the lowest of all of the women. Kindred Wesemann from Kansas State won both the women's and overall (by tiebreaker). One of her rounds scored 26 points!

Had to check her bio - Kindred Wesemann had 90 this season.

The race is over. Jankoska wins with 122.

Asia Durr and Katie Lou Samuleson tied for second with 119.

Samuelson did not break KML's UConn season record of 121.

Katelynn Flaherty added four more 3FG's in her team's 3OT victory in the WNIT final to end up with 109.

I watched Flaherty, Michaela Mabrey and Marina Mabrey play on the same team in a New Jersey tournament about six or seven years ago, after I had interviewed Michaela. Little did I know I was in the presence of such future great college shooters.

Katelynn broke the 2000 point mark yesterday. She will break the Michigan career record in her first or second game next season.
