Quote:
the draft is supposed by be just a few short weeks away and we still don’t know 100 percent when or even where it is going to take place. Some people are saying the draft will take place on April 10, some on April 13. And apparently the reason for the lack of a firm date is because the WNBA still doesn’t know where the festivities will actually take place.

For a league that is trying to drum up excitement and increase their fanbase, logic would say that the draft is a prime opportunity to do just that. Instead, no one seems to know what is going on.

Too cheap to rent out a facility...

I wouldn't be surprised if the league held the draft on Twitter,Instagram.Facebook,Skype,or by Conferennce Call.

Maybe there won't be a draft. Just let all the rookies be free agents.

Jesus, you'd think a team with rich owners (well, they all have wealthy owners, but I'm talking about people worth over 100M) as in NYL, LAS, or WAS could pony up some space, provided their owner can get it, or if they own the arena.

I don't know exactly how many people work at the WNBA headquarters, but you would think SOMEBODY must have realized the draft would be coming soon!

They knew more or less when the draft would be since the end of the season. They've had months to set a date and secure a location.

That way they can change their minds later about what happened...

I'd guess at this point and say it'll be held at the ESPN studios. It is being televised on ESPN2, so they still need a location.

Still no word on the draft. How sad.

A minority view: What difference does it make where it is? Only a very few people attend ...

It's April 13, and that's pretty much all I need to know.

An official announcement of the date would be a good thing

I agree with ClayK. Such as weak draft, probably hard to get motivated to put the package together. May be waiting to see who declares.

Dream will have a draft party, so seems like they expect to draft someone......

It's more about what the lack of an official announcement reflects. The organisation and communication from this league has been half-assed for a long time, and somehow they're letting it get worse. It's barely quarter-assed at this point.

When it was held at Mohegan Sun arena, it really made it feel like a major event. Having it back at (likely) the ESPN studios will seem, well, uneventful.

How many years did Mohegan Sun host the draft?

The last 3 years.

I guess Chong in the late 2nd/3rd Round wasn't going to bring in the crowds for the Mohegan Sun. Laughing

This. If the league itself doesnt take it serious why would everyone else?

Maybe the players would like to make travel plans that aren't last minute.

I think their travel is paid for and probably bought for them with little input on their side...though I guess it would be nice for the bubble players to know if they're actually going to be invited or not.

As one of those very few people the last 2 years, who has a scheduled day off for this purpose, who got to feel the adrenaline of Trader Bill doing work two years ago and cheer for three of her favorite players last year... it makes a difference to me.

Though as pilight pointed out, there's been nothing official from the league, even though teams are organizing draft parties.

And wherever it shall be, it likely won't be available for any fans to attend. That was the one really nice advantage in having at Mohegan Sun.
