Russell on some ez advanced stats, is having a slightly better junior year, compared to Tianna Hawkins and Kayla Alexander, but their 2 senior years are better.

I guess Sue Favor is with Excelle Sports now. She's done a three round mock draft with the assumption of no early declarations. Her first round mock was pretty bad last year, and this year isn't looking that good either. Always seems to have a rule to include at least a couple mid-majors in the first round whether it's realistic or not. Thibault is known for taking mid-majors in the first round, but I can't see that this year.

http://www.excellesports.com/news/wnba-mock-draft-version-1/

Quote:
Round 1:
1. Kelsey Plum, G, Washington
2. Alaina Coates, C, South Carolina
3. Brionna Jones, C, Maryland
4. Alexis Peterson, G, Syracuse
5. Lindsay Allen, G, Notre Dame
6. Nia Coffey, F, Northwestern
7. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, G, Maryland
8. Tori Jankoska, G, Michigan State
9. Alexis Jones, G, Baylor
10. Jennie Simms, G, Old Dominion
11. Sydney Wiese, G, Oregon State
12. Precious Hall, G, James Madison

In her third round, she has names like Epps, Davis, and Romero

That mock with Allen going #5 makes me chuckle heavily.

She also tends to have a West Coast bias and a soft spot for the underdog. Nothing wrong with that as a fan, but keep it out of your work.

Here are final version first round mocks from last year.
Sue Favor is listed under SLAM, and last year Howard Megdal was Excelle Sports. Megdal's final version first round ended up not being too bad (but he really whiffed on Copper), but his intial attempt was pretty brutal.

Goddamn it, and I took the day off from work.

So Mohegan only wants the draft if it has Huskies in it? East Coast fans, we need to do a better job of making the draft an Event a la All-Star or the Final Four.

Or at the ESPN campus. Means no fan attendance.

One of the reasons I believe early declarations seem to be on the rise is it's finally sinking in that early declarations are possible in the WNBA. It's always been assumed that the college player needs to use their full eligibility or be 22 before the draft. Back in 2012 draft talk when pd first introduced this rule, everybody was like wtf are you talking about. Nobody knew. Now we talk about it so much the past few years, everybody should know, but some still don't....

That's Duke grad and women's basketball enthusiast, Monique Currie. She should be up on this kind of stuff, but apparently not.

Kelsey Mitchell's dad didn't understand that Kelsey was eligible to declare. I hope he understood after I explained it to him. Let's see what happens.

I doubt it impacts where she goes. She's still the best post in this draft.

It might. Need details on the injury.

As a Chicago fan, you should be upset that they drafted someone named Weiss. Wink

+1 The WNBA salaries are chicken feed and don't really make much of a difference. it's the overseas salaries, promotions and sponsorships where the monetary incentives lie. And, yes, egos do play a part, as in any sort of ranking structure.

WNBA success translates directly into European dollars, so there is that connection -- but the difference between being first and fourth is inconsequential. The real difference is between four and five.

It's not like there's even a massive difference between 4 and 5. It's about $4,000 in the rookie season, maybe $17,000 over the entire course of the rookie contract (assuming the player doesn't get cut and the team eventually takes up the 4th year option). It's not nothing, but it's not all that much, even by WNBA standards.

At least it's out there.

BTW, I hear the reason the W hasn't released any information about the draft is that they haven't secured a location for it yet.

A shame it won't be at Mohegan Sun anymore. If they can't grab anything else, it'll likely be held at the ESPN studios.
