She probably has to come over to sign the contract anyway so they probably make a big deal about her signing a multiyear contract.

She doesnt have to come all the way to Phoenix to announce that she is sitting out

Well considering her not having signed yet has been a "hot topic" around here I imagine they are trying to build on that speculation and make a bit of noise.
The Suns suck this season btw so this may be a way to get some attention focused on anything but their pathetic season Rolling Eyes

In this electronic age, I doubt she has to come over to sign a document. But yeah, I didn't really believe it would be to announce sitting out either. Maybe they have a new sponsor who is flying her over to model their gear or use her as a figurehead for their ad campaign.

Maybe it's Griner announcing her extension and a new jersey sponsor. I don't think any WNBA player ever held a special announcement to say they were extending their contract.

Perhaps we'll see this lineup at times:

PG: Mitchell
SG: Robinson
SF: Taurasi
PF: Little
C: Griner

Two short guards on the floor at the same time will get them killed on defense. I see Murphy or Petrovic as the other starter.

On offense Mitchell can play off the ball as a shooting threat; on defense Robinson can defend 2s and Taurasi can not defend equally at whatever position. So yeah, plausible. If the foreigners don't show up (or take their sweet time in doing so) they're going to have to do something on the wing. Can't be remotely confident in what Murphy's got left, or what Talbot/Turner can do at this level.

Or the Suns are so desperate for help, she's signing a ten day contract.

The Sun's game isn't until 9:00pm EST. I wonder if her "news" will be leaked before the game.

I'm a little surprised that Feinberg hasn't told us the specifics already. Makes me think it's probably nothing more interesting than a new contract.

Nerd2 implied in another thread that Taurasi either forced it or was the cause of it.

I think Dupree's mess of a season last year caused it. Dee gets too much credit for player movement IMO.

Dupree really wasn't very good last year. She couldn't seem to hit her patented mid range shots. Combine that with the defense she's never played and it was pretty ugly. I thought maybe it was partially the hoopla around the wedding distracting her....but this year there will be the pregnant partner, so can we hope for better?

The "implications" fly fast and furious about the Mercury on this board lol.

Candu's bad season, her lack of defense and lack of enthusiasm last season most likely were the reason. Hell, we were all speculating last year that she was playing like she was already retired, her even coming back this season to play is some what surprising.

Brittney Griner re-signs with Phoenix Mercury live on Suns pregame show

Quote:
“I’ve made this my home,” Griner told hosts Tom Leander and Tom Chambers. “Phoenix definitely has a special place in my heart.”

she's still trying to make a go at the WNBA. Hopefully she's rebounded from her injuries. Could be a nice addition to the Mercury.

An illustration of exactly how desperate the Mercury are to pull a rabbit out of their hat on the wing.

Losing Bonner and Taylor in the same year (plus another year on Taurasi's ticking clock) is a hell of a hit to take all in one go.

Are you talking about her injuries from 2010? Surprised
