Encouraging Players to Plan for After the Games - Ken Belson, March 1st 2017

"When Alana Beard was in high school in Shreveport, La., she stopped by a Smoothie King fruit-drink shop almost every day on her way home from basketball practice. Even then, years before she became a star in the Women’s National Basketball Association, she was thinking about owning restaurants like that one day.

“I thought, why not make money off of something I enjoy,” Ms. Beard said by phone from Salamanca, Spain, where she is playing this W.N.B.A. off-season.

Now, nearly 20 years later, Ms. Beard, who will soon begin what she said will be her last season in the W.N.B.A., is preparing for life after basketball."

This is the first time I heard of any mention that Alana was retiring from the WNBA. Surprised

BTW, in that linked article, who is the opposing Seattle Storm player on that photo, besides Tina Thompson? Is it Ewalina Kobryn?

The caption said that the photo was taken during the 2012 season. Was Allie with the Storm that year?

No im 100% sure that's Quigley. Kobryn is twice her size Laughing
Also Quigley was waived by the Storm before the season. So this picture was probably taken during a preseason game.
