Hmmm...I doubt there is room on the Silver Stars roster for both McCray and Edna Campbell.

Good pick-up for Houston, but I doubt she'll last more than a year, and she won't be a starter.

Hey alright! Assistant General Manager Sue Bird gets her Russian! Cool

Marianna Raguz should be good also... Lior and Orli are always raving about her to me over AIM Arrow

Ely is more of a combo 3-4 so the SASS do need another SF... I think she also might be Madaline Kahn's long lost twin Shocked

Isn't it interesting that the signing of Vodopyanova comes on the same day that we hear from Oovy that the rumor out of Russia is indeed a fact? Would she really give up all that money to come here? I guess we'll know when the plane from Russia lands here in May, whether Sue steps off alone or with Natalia in tow.

The signing of Adrienne Goodson makes me feel like maybe Sheryl will still be moved. I don't see Goodie as someone who would want to go somewhere she can't be a starter, even towards the end of her career. But at this point, where would Sheryl go?

I would trade her to the SASS for Kendra Wecker or Marie Ferdinand straight up.

This is really starting to look like a stupid collection of people to me though, a real "veteran" meaning OLD team...

Sheryl, Goodie, Tari, Tina, Tiff, Janeth... all 30+

What the heck is going on?!

We have a bad GM, the worst in the league. That's what's going on.

Goodie at the three and Sheryl at the two with Hodges on the bench isn't the worst idea I've heard today.

you're prolly talking just about houston, but a lot of this is making no sense to me, all these teams bringing back players we know can't play. why is sfo diddlin' with stacey thomas? (why, sfo?) why is seattle diddlin' with aj? why is new york diddlin' with kelley gibson? i could go on.

but i wouldn't mind goodie coming to new york . . .

Well, Goodson is closer to retirement than Swoopes, so I don't think her signing means the end of Sheryl. More likely is that of all the teams, the only one which has an opening at SF is Seattle, and they've decided to go cheap and young. The only option was to go someplace as a backup/limited minutes, and Houston is in the same state as San Antonio, so no need for her to uproot Shocked

Arcain - 36 years old
Swoopes - 34 years old
Phillips - 36 years old
Goodson - 38 years old

Why don't the Comets go out and sign Stinson and complete the entire Social Security lineup? Yes, there is still a lot of talent left in some of those players, but rebuilding for the future does not involve players who Remember the Maine. Van needs players the age of those who think Pulp Fiction was John Travolta's first film.

John Travolta should just sign with the Comets and call it a career.

Well Pulp Fiction came out in 1994... You had to be 18 to see it when it came out, so add 11 years and that makes what, 31? Not that much younger... Shocked

You have to see a movie to be aware of it??? Oh come on! I haven't seen The Godfather, but I am certainly aware of the actors in it (and the plot).

Parents never rent an R-rated movie and allow kids to watch?

It was a joke...and apparently someone forgot to think of all the scenarios in which awareness can be obtained.

BCBG has a bit of a point. Even with how glum our situation seems, at least we don't have Blaze. Our GM still sucks, and he sucks bad. I would prefer Hargrove, she would at least try new people.

I have no problem with the signing, because the free agent market is scarce with guards, which is what the Comets need.

However, I do agree with the assessment on this group that he's putting together. It looks pretty dumb, when you consider that #00 is apart of it. For his lineup to make any sense, he almost HAVE TO trade Sheryl for a point guard. He should probably work to have the following starting lineup:

F- Arcain
F- Phillips
C- Snow
G- Canty
G- A guard via trade

Reserves
Goodson
Hodges
Lyttle
Thompson (until ready to return to starting lineup)

However, he's going to start a lineup, of:

F- Swoopes
F- Phillips
C- Snow
G- Goodson
G- Arcain

All I can say is, Cappie or Augustus, come on down...

Except Madaline Kahn had a fear of balls coming toward her. lol!

(Anyone see that hilarious clip from the Tonight Show where she tells Johnny that? He does the ULTIMATE Carson take. He gets that troubled look on his face and stares off camera for a second, then off camera again but closer, then dead into the camera. He was the master of that stuff.)

Yeah that looks like where he's going with it... except he might swap your SF with your SG. But unless Swoopes is herself demanding to get out of Houston, she's not going to be traded at this point. The hanging jersey smoke signal has been read and Swoopes is still the Pope. The fans in Houston made a statement, it seems, and it was heard.

Just think about this... every ASG... top overall vote getter. That's fan base home and away. (for what it's worth in the W.) MVP and DPOY in 2002. Just turned 34.

The idea that Swoopes and THIS era of Comets players don't represent the best shot they may have at another title anytime soon is just poppycock. It's just not time to throw these superstars away and try to build for the future. There might be no player in the world who the Comets could get that would provide them the MVP/DPOY level of performance in the next two to three years.

No one is going to trade a Catchings or a Lo-Jack to the Comets for Swoopes AND Thomson. So who else is out there that can provide the Comets with that kind of superstar leadership to help them in the next 2-3 years? Nobody. They're stuck with Swoopes and they're lucky to be stuck with her if you ask me.

The Comets need some really sparkling guard play (and they solve half that problem with Swoopes at SG and Arcain as her backup) and young dependable strong motivated post players. They've got some good subs for Tina in Tari and either Snow or Lyttle. Goodson sounds like a supersub.

I'm not as gloomy as some of you are. Two years from now, yes. It's over. End of an era. Right now... yall should just settle down 'cause it's going to be a real interesting season.

I don't see complacency or a bunch of players okay with losing here and that's been the Comets biggest problem the last few years.

And anyone who starts valuating Swoopes in relation to a 1st round draft pick or Marie Ferdanand (Alepp03!) needs to buck up and get in line because Swoopes could win a couple more MVP Awards yet.

Like Rummy said... you go to war with the army you got, and Tari and Goody are fucking warriors, no?
