I know this is a contentious issue, and it is impossible to imagine equalizing WNBA and NBA salaries right now, but since it is national Pay Equity Day, I thought I'd throw out these stats -- they're all players' union figures.
The average NBA player salary in the 2004-05 season was $4,000,000.
The average WNBA salary for the 2004 season was $46,000.
On average, women in the U.S. make about 76 cents to a man's dollar, while WNBA players make about 1 cent for every dollar NBA players make.

Did you factor in the difference in the length of each league's season? It won't help cover up the alarming disparity, but it is a factor to be considered.
Frankly, I was in the work force for a long, long time with multiple degrees and an area of specialization before I even crossed the 40 Grand mark and I have to work all but about four weeks a year.
I don't begrudge the ladies anything they can get in terms of making a living, but at least WNBA players, well those without the major endorsement contracts and overseas opportunities, have some idea of how the other half lives...you know, us..the fans.
All in all, herade, your point is very well taken.

that's not an argument, dear, it's just a set of figures, though you could argue that the very fact that i line up those two figures implies some assumptions about their comparability, and therefore an immanent critique. however, i clearly noted that i was not arguing for immediate pay equalization in the wnba/nba. i just produced a parallel statistic to the ones that you always see around the gender wage gap more generally.
