Nurse is more running back than basketball guard, imo.

She tries hard at least.

She needs a Moriah Jefferson Dec. 2014 epiphany.

So how did you like that last Samuelson defensive play?

Probably as much as Geno did, but why quote comments re Nurse for that question?

I was just directing the question to you. It wasn't about the Nurse comments.

nurse clanks a 1-on-4 3.

seriously, when you suck shooting, you should at least have the mindset to not shoot in such a situation.

Dayton concentrating on going inside, with some success. That Harris kid is pretty good.

so from your perspective, UCONN fans, what the heck has happened to Nurse? I mean she looked like she was going to be a decent player, if not spectacular, but now she just can't hit anything. Is it confidence? Or pressure? or what? She played better as the lead guard for Canada against better competition so it just seems weird. It's to the point that I think if Geno actually had a choice, she'd be warming the bench for about 30 minutes a game.

She couldn't throw the ball into the ocean during the Olympics either. She was 16 of 64 (25%) in Rio including 0-6 vs China, 3-17 vs France, 1-8 vs Spain, etc.

She had hip surgery a couple of months before the Olympics.

My opinion is that her problem is a combination of 3 possibilities.

the hip surgery

the pressure of directing both the offense and the defense

burn out. She spent to seasons starting for UConn while spending 2 summers playing for her national team. All this during her first 2 years at UConn. I would expect that with the pleasant surprise of Dangerfield she will get fewer minutes once the conference games get going.

I take two things from this game and our first 4 games:

1. Crystal Dangerfield is GOOD. Like, really, really good. I can't wait to see her game evolve over the next four years.

2. We have a lot of work more work to do on defense than on offense. This is good because I think defense, especially with a new, young team, can evolve and really grow over the course of the season. If you can't score, chances are, you never will be able to. We can score.

I agree. Of course, individuals have shortcomings on defense, just like offense, but, as you say, give the staff a few months, and they can do a good job to remove/hide the deficiencies.
