Who might be a good candidate for the Chicago Sky head coaching vacancy?

Got tired of writing down Taj as a candidate, or those same old tired retreads (Meadors, Plank, Ross). Freshened it up a little. Who knows who Chicago will choose as the new head coach? I sure don't. The Connecticut hire was way out in left field for me.

Why isn't Pokey Chatman an option? just in case they want to be like the New York Liberty with Laimbeer and hire her to replace herself. Smile

How about something a little out there and a little retread

GM/Head Coach Tamika Catchings

1st Assistant (focusing on defense and in game coaching until Catch is a little more seasoned) Carol Ross

Catchings is an interesting idea for GM, if Chicago is willing to split up the job. She has stated she's not interested in coaching. I'm not sure why nobody believes her.

Maybe if Pokey is desperate enough they can bring her back as a guard coach.

If I was Bibb, I would seriously consider Pokey as a replacement for Williams. But maybe a GM doesn't want to hire a coach with GM experience. Smile

I voted for Katie Smith, but I think a lot depends on whether they split the GM/coaching duties.

I think that would be a nice full circle moment for her WNBA career.

Shouldn't the team be hiring a GM first? (Unless they want to hire a combined GM/Head Coach, as Pokey was.)

Hiring a head coach before a GM is usually a bad idea.

Doug Bruno will cap his coaching career by a nostalgic return to his Chicago Hustle roots.

Bruno left his coaching position at DePaul after two years to coach the Hustle in 1978. The Hustle beat the Milwaukee Does in the WBL's first game on December 9, 1978, in front of 7,824 fans. Debra Waddy-Rossow of the Hustle lead all scorers with 30 points.

Bruno, who was younger than some of his players, hustled away from the Hustle soon after he was involved in the "WBL's most serious officiating dispute."

^I've put her on prior polls for the Sparks, Mercury, and Tulsa.... all of which make more sense for her than Chicago, but she didn't get those jobs. I'm guessing she might not be interested in a head coaching gig.

If she is interested, she has a little history with the Fever, so.....

What about Becky Hammon? Or, is she committed to coaching in the NBA?

I doubt she'd want to take the 'backward step' back to the WNBA. And if she was going to, there's an open position in San Antonio which would seem a more likely job for her to take.

They should have one by the new year. Probably going to try for someone who can fill both roles.

But it should be clear to everyone by now that this isn't exactly the best-run organization in the WNBA...or even an average one.

I suppose anything is possible but I don't think she would take the job.

You guys and your demands for instant gratification. I remember the Mystics taking so long to find a coach one offseason it became the subject of an April Fool's joke.
