We ran one for the playoffs last year, and had a pretty decent turnout, we ran the 80 cap and the 50 cap games, anybody interested in playing one or both this summer?
We can't give away a trip to the WNBA Finals of course, so I'm sure most will play the ESPN WVGM game, but if anybody is interested in playing another one here, let me know.

yes, yes, YES, rebkell!
i've been thinking about it lately, in fact, and i have a humble proposal. i dunno what the legal ramifications of such a thing would be, but here it is anyway.
if you have a vgm, how about making it open to everyone, BUT those who choose pay-to-play win the purse that comes from the entrance fee? so let's say that those who want to play for a cash prize kick in $5 per. let's say the goal is 100 paying players in the 80-cap game, for $500 total. then the winner (the paying contestant with the top score) would get $500, and anything over that would go to the administrator (that would be you, reb). it needn't be complicated, but $500 would be a nice little piece of change for playing. it could be done via paypal, and the fee could even be $6, to offset what paypal takes as its own cut. just a thought.

Interesting, I have no idea what the legal ramifications would be on something like that, maybe it could be done on the side between players. I don't have a problem with it, but have no idea of the legalities involved.

I have no interest in playing for money.
Maybe you should do a different sort of game. Running a game exactly like ESPN's would be sort of pointless. Maybe you could run it like a regular fantasy league, maybe more than one depending on how many people want to play.

I've really enjoyed the head to head league I played in for the NBA season. It was a blast. I'll be glad to give you access to my account to see how it works if you want Reb. I'm in the championship game right now.
Just email me.

with respect, running a game like espn's does indeed have a point. reb's game actually works! the whole reason reb had a vgm last year was because so many of us were frustrated by espn's apathy, starting with a very basic failure to update rosters and list players by their correct positions, and ending with the damned thing just sitting there and not running at all. i'll be playing reb's game, for money or no, and not playing espn's game because i don't have that kinda time to be frustrated.
fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me!

Well pilight if you have a problem with the gambling aspect (don't blame you) why don't we just let Reb keep the damn money for all he's done and will be doing for us? He deserves MUCH more than $500 if you ask me.

Since ESPN isn't going to be running a game, a VGM style game would be OK.
Maybe we can convince WNBA.com to link to it from their front page...

I would love to do a WNBA head-to-head league similar to the NBA's. I love doing drafts, and trades. VGM gets boring after a while.

Keep up the fight BCBG! Yeah, after this most recent news, I'm going to draft more specific emails to the Fantasy Games higher-ups I know, that of Jennifer Nelson and Roger Rotter.
As for RebKel's WVGM, I think that running a game like ESPN makes more sense now. As for the money issue, I think it will give more incentive to maintain one's attention to inputting winning lineups, but at the same time, it will serve to keep away newcomers who don't want to pay knowing that they'll likely lose. Maybe we can just have people donate what they want and just play for that pool? I'm not sure that we can get 100 people playing here at $5 each considering we only have ~300 members ...but yeah, I mean $5 isn't anything to me really... It cost me $5 in gas to drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, where you then stop at the toll booth and pay...... $5!

I'll have a game this year, no problem. I set it up last year for the Playoffs, and it's mostly a matter of getting the schedule put in a db, and adding the newer players. I should get it set up by this weekend, the new schedule and such.... I think it will work well, I will also allow you to pick for the entire week, possible two in advance also.

Awesome! That is one of the things I hated about ESPN's WVGM. Especially when there were days in between anyone playing. If you get busy and think you selected your players for the next day but really didn't, then you lost points.

Is someone going to prepare a primer for us newbies to such a competitive undertaking?
You know you can tell us stuff wrong which will work to your advantage, until we figure out how the thing is supposed to go.
I think it sounds like a blast, just never participated before.

My 2 week summer vacation always took the wind out of my sails with the espn game. I would welcome the ability to work a week or two in advance. Count me in!
