23 of the 36 drafted players from the 2011 draft made WNBA appearances this year. That's 64% of the draftees, the highest rate since 2008. Overall 64% is a middling number, 9th highest of the 16 WNBA drafts.

I would be interested to know 'substantial' appearances as opposed to someone who 'appeared' once or twice for two minutes... maybe those who were on a roster for a whole season. While interesting I just don't think these numbers give a very meaningful look at 'depth.'

How substantial is substantial? I have a chart on my site that details how many have scored 1000+ points and so on.

When did the league go to 11 players per team with no injured reserve? 2009?
Whenever it was, it should have lead to fewer rookies making teams, but it doesn't look that way.
Also, 2008 sure was a banner year. I wonder what accounts for that.

It was a good draft in an expansion season.

Bear in mind that players have been known to appear as many as seven years after being drafted. We had a 2009 and a 2010 draftee make their debut this year.

there were three first round picks that didn't play a regular season game(Dabo, Dantas & Barrett), percentage wise(25%), is that a record??

It is a record both in number and percentage. There were four previous occasions when two first round picks didn't play they year they were drafted: 2010 (Danielle McCray and Bianca Thomas), 2007 (Carla Thomas and Sandrine Gruda), 2003 (Molly Creamer and Allison Curtin), and 2002 (Tawana McDonald and Rosalind Ross).

Carla Thomas played as a rookie, I think. |

Mystics helped with this year's stats. Four rookies playing decent minutes, one undrafted. Of course, when measuring percentage of drafted players, having an undrafted player actually could lower the percentage of drafted players playing in the league. And that undrafted player took the roster spot of a 2012 first rounder (Novosel).

Actually, the correlation tends to go the other way. We had six undrafted rookies appear this season, the most since 2008. In 2010, when only half the drafted rookies made appearances, there were only three undrafted rookies that made rosters.

Great stuff, as always ...
A question: About how many years does it take for a draft to play out? In other words, after how many years are we unlikely to see a member of a particular draft class make her debut?

Players have debuted as many as seven seasons after being drafted. Just this season we saw the first appearance from a player drafted in 2012.

So is about four years enough to make a judgment? If one or two more sign on after that, it doesn't change the perspective that much.

I would say four years is plenty. The vast majority of players appear within two seasons of being drafted.

for what was hyped as such a deep draft, I believe no third round players played this season? Is that a first?

Fields played for a while.
Fagbenle and Barbee check into camps next year.
