The USA will officially face Japan in the quarterfinals. That Spain-Canada match tomorrow should be fun to watch. I wonder who the USA will rest against China tomorrow as they've won their group(they defeated both Spain & Canada).

won't really matter but I guess he could play a bunch of Mone, Catch, and Stewie...with a generous dose of Angel and Whalen. But I doubt if it will be that obvious.

Haven't been watching this one, but just checked the boxscore. I don't understand why players like Taylor, with old limbs that need to be managed, are even playing. Australia have won the group. It's less embarrassing if you lose playing the reserves anyway. The starting lineup should've been something like Lavey/Ebzery/Talbot/Burton/George.

It's essentially meaningless for Belarus, too. They're out.

Penny should never have even played in that game IMO. Her & Cambage both played 23. Too many. I thought Leilani should have been limited as well. She wasn't by the coaches, but luckily she got into foul trouble.
Some of the bench players have looked just fine when given the chance to settle in, so I'm glad that Lavey, Ebzery & Jarry at least got a proper run last night. George didn't play as much as she should have. Talbot remains on a stupidly short leash for some reason. She may not be in our best group, but she's a capable player and shouldn't be having her confidence wrecked by getting dragged every time she makes an error.

They both took some hits too, in a game neither should have seen more than 10 minutes.

Is anyone watching Serbia and Senegal? How did Sonja get T-ed up? The Senegal player had her entire hand on Petrovic's face and pushed her to the floor.

Spain def. Canada 73-60.

QUARTERFINALS
United States vs. Japan
Australia vs. Serbia
France vs. Canada
Spain vs. Turkey

The France-Canada match seems like the only interesting one of the quarters. USA, Australia & Spain should have no problems advancing.

Wasn't Australia stumbling in a couple games?

If 4 is a couple then yeah.

France - the PFT game - is the only game we didn't trail at half time.
In the 2 most recent games we've had to come back from 16 & 13 point deficits respectively.

Anyone privy to why Leti Romero didn't play for Spain today? She's played well all tournament and I think she's way better than Silvia Dominguez. Wonder if she was not feeling well.

I would guess it was just a coaching decision. Most of the coaches at this tournament seem to feel like they have to play 11 or 12 players, however much some of them may suck more than others. But the Spanish coach is one of the ones who actually shortens his rotation when necessary. Romero didn't play in the tight game against Serbia, either. So maybe he's just more comfortable with Palau/Dominguez. He only used 8 players in total today.

Maybe he was resting her? I haven't watched Spain much, so I don't know if she usually plays a lot of minutes. He rested Xargay the entire game against the US, so maybe he just does that if he's pretty confident in the result.

Um Spain will not have an easy game against Turkey. Turkey has a big advantage in the post but they don't have a good player that can defend Torrens.

The Opals will have trouble guarding Serbia. They have been horrible defending the pick&roll so Dabovic and Petrovic/Milovanovic will have a field day running those and kick out to their 3point shooters.

The only easy game will be USA vs Japan.

The "party hard after we've won" didn't work out that well for the American swimmers.
