True, but France seemed to be a better team at MSG and Canada has not been playing all that well. On the other hand, France is missing Dumerc.

This is a really entertaining game. I really want to see Canada just let Fields go, but she's probably far too young to have earned that kind of leash. Something to look for in the future...

Too bad Canada lost. Was looking forward to another USA-Canada game.

Can't wait to see what Team Canada looks like in '18 & '20. They have a lot of talent on their "development team" list, Hamblin, Weisner, Emily Potter, Quinn Dornstauder, Shay Colley and others. A Bronze Medal this year was quite a reach for Canada...the next FIBA Worlds & Tokyo '20 should be quite a different story, this program is on the rise. |

Why? So that they have TWO players forcing shots and going 3/17 instead of just one? A sure formula for success. |
No, I meant letting her push the ball some more. |
To be effective, there would have to be a couple other players able and willing to run with her. Not sure who that would be. Otherwise she would just end up charging to the basket and throwing it up. |
I don't know if it was the same last night, but against Spain that's actually what Lisa Thomaidis told her guards to do. During a late-game timeout (Thomaidis was miked), she told them to not run any sets -- just drive to the basket. Someone -- maybe Fields -- asked if she should use crossover moves. Thomaidis said no, just take it straight to the hoop. Now, to be fair about it, Canada was down 10 or 12 points with maybe 3 minutes left. Perhaps Thomaidis wanted the team to be quick and not waste time, also hoping to stop the clock by drawing fouls. That's different from being 1 down with a minute left or 3 down with about 40 seconds, which were the situations when Nurse went one-on-one. Nonetheless, I don't think I've ever heard a coach tell her team to not run any plays and just charge to the basket.
