No Ruth Hamblin. Maybe it's because she's from Houston, and no one believes there is a Houston in British Columbia.

Ruth Hamblin is part of the Development Women's National Team program, she is currently playing with the exhibition team in China and will be representing Canada in the World University Games.

I'm a big fan of Ruth Hamblin, She plays with a high IQ.

Just an FYI for those who may not be aware....Kim Gaucher is the married name of former WNBA player, Kim Smith.

Kim played for the Sacramento Monarchs from 2006-2008.

I think it's wide open for silver this year. No reason it can't be Canada IMO.

I agree. I think Canada has a great chance to win the silver medal, especially if the team comes ready to play, they had a great showing at the World Championships and Pan American Games and I think the team will have a lot of momentum coming in. But as you say it's so wide open, so it should be a fun competition. I enjoyed watching them play in the World Championships and Pan American Games and I'm looking forward to watching them in Rio as well.

In other words... no chance. Too young and inexperienced. They're fun to root for though.

With training camps taking place throughout the WNBA season, it will be interesting to see what the WNBA players do and if the WNBA teams and Canada Basketball can workout something for those players to do both.

I wonder why no Kayla Alexander. She has history with Team Canada, having played on the U19 team.

France has been sleep-walking through preparations, but good work by Canada nonetheless:

Maybe France realized that the warm-ups don't matter and are saving their best for the Americans in Rio.

Not going to post this in both threads so I will just go with the winning team's thread:

With all the talk about the new generation, Kim Smith and Miranda Ayim do not want to be forgotten.

They still have to qualify for Rio. With the qualifiers at home, they should have no issues, but obviously you don't want to be playing too badly at this time.

Kia Nurse, whose outstanding performance at last summer's Pan Am Games made her a household name, is recovering from a sports hernia that required surgery.

But coach Lisa Thomaidis said the 20-year-old is on pace to be fully recovered in time for the Rio Olympics.

"Timeline is she's 100 per cent by Tuesday, and cleared for everything," Thomaidis said. "We're confident she'll be good to go when we get together in Toronto."

The Canadian women, ranked No. 9 in the world on FIBA's most recent rankings, host No. 8 China in three exhibition games at Edmonton's Saville Centre on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
