The Purple Rain hitmaker had performed at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta on last Thursday night - the second of two back to back sold out shows - and had seemed fine during the concert.

Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called life
Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell you
There's something else
The after world
A world of never ending happiness
You can always see the sun, day or night

With the board going all Critical Error on us, we ended up with 4 separate threads on this.

That somehow feels fitting for the size of this loss.

I'm truly devastated right now. Crying or Very sad

The weird thing, he felt ill enough on the plane trip from ATL to MIN that he felt a need to make an emergency landing. But they determined it was nothing serious. Dehydration from flu, or something like that? Maybe something got overlooked?

Wow. Very sad news. CNN just playing the live Purple Rain video. Yeah, the multiple threads are fitting.

I'm not good at posting the fancy twitter images like Genero is. But this one by famous astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson brought tears to my eyes.

Only now do we know what it sounds like When Doves Cry the absence of music from loss of The Artist. RIP Prince (1958-2016)

It is raining in Minnesota today.

One of the most iconic images (in my mind at least) of music and sports colliding was Prince's halftime show at Super Bowl XLI.

Without doubt, Prince delivered the greatest Super Bowl halftime show ever. His "presser" where he played songs for media, also best ever.

This man's music was the soundtrack of my youth. It started with Dirty Mind. He was a jerk to fans at times , so far from perfect, live in concert he never cheated us..... Never. I feel sad even tho I haven't seen him in concert in 8 years. I haven't bought a CD since he changed his sound after Sign o the times.

All the local broadcast channels are breaking normal programming for the Prince news.

He could be. But it tended to be when he felt people were demanding things of him. He liked to walk his own path and be beholden to no one.

Because on the flip side, he was one of the most giving musicians I have ever seen. He was famous for his impromptu concerts. Back in the days before social media he would let it be known that he was going to hold a concert, and it would spread by word of mouth among his fans. I've been to these concerts both at Paisley Park and his own home. There was no guest list, just those who showed up were let in.

While I wasn't there myself, a friend of mine was at a bar one night when Prince walked in. He then took the stage and performed for three hours. Not even the bar owners knew he was coming, or that he was going to sing.

So yeah, while he could be aloof and oversensitive at time, he more than made up for that in his own way.

Kick in the gut.

Through all the places, spaces, and faces I've been a part of the last 30 years, Prince has been there. High school track meets, College formals, impromptu Grad School Dance Parties, Gym workouts, later-in-life karaoke, his music has been there. I've not been the most loyal Fan but I've checked in from time-to-time from Controversy to Symbol, to NPG, to Super Bowl to ThirdEYeGirl and always felt like I'm reconnecting with a comfortable friend.

Today I have the luxury of spending the day listening to Prince and reconnecting with that old track field, my old workout buddies, those old karaoke haunts; those old memories of friends I haven't perhaps thought of in a long, long time.

Prince Has the No. 1 Song and Album on iTunes Today
Quote:
Just 45 minutes after news broke that Prince died on Thursday, he reached No. 1 on iTunes in the album and song categories. "Purple Rain" is currently the No. 1 song on iTunes, with "Little Red Corvette" at No. 2, "When Doves Cry" at No. 3, "Let's Go Crazy" at No. 5, and "I Would Die 4 U" at No. 10. His greatest hits album The Very Best of Prince is No. 1 on iTunes. That's just one of the many ways Prince is taking over iTunes.

Headed out to First Avenue tonight. They are holding an all night dance party in honor of Prince. Starts at 11 pm. 18+, no cover charge.

First Avenue is the club from the movie Purple Rain.

Prince tells fans 'wait a few days before you waste any prayers' in chilling last appearance on stage

http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/prince-tells-fans-wait-few-7806332

Quote:
Prince told fans "wait a few days before you waste any prayers" during his final appearance on stage.

The singer appeared on stage at Paisley Park near his Minnesota home on Saturday night.

Although he didn't perform, he did appear and showed off his new guitar.

He then told the adoring crowd: "Wait a few days before you waste any prayers."
