Now in a midseason format!

I will probably write an article about them this week in anticipation of games Saturday and Wednesday. Some pluses and some minuses with the new method, but I will want to see how it plays out before commenting fully. No interruption of the WNBA season at least.

Not sure what I am rooting for except perhaps for the best for our WNBAlien.

Heh, thanks. Still deciding whether I'm going to make the trek up to Manchester for the game on the Wednesday night. Might wait until the double-header in February.

Sweden's not in the Olympics, right?

I see that Sweden has been looking to 2017, and it looks like Zahui and Abdi will be on that national team. So they'll both probably be missing some games from their WNBA teams that season.

What do you think of the squad? Not having Fagbenle hurts, but it is harder for other people to make excuses for not showing up.

I knew I was forgetting at least one of our international posters. I wonder if the Orange Blizzards experiment will provide any help. Halman also seems to be in form these days.

Fagbenle's a big loss, but assuming she's showing up (and her latest tweet would suggest she is) the addition of Leedham should be huge in the opposite direction. With her back and Vanderwal a vastly better player than she used to be, we actually have two viable perimeter scorers, which seems insane. New coach, so we'll see how that works out. I don't expect to win the group but hopefully we can scrape together enough wins to finish second and get in.

16-team tournament rather than the 20 from last time, so it's a little more difficult for the fringe teams to get in.

I doubt if it will help that much. They played the young players a lot and not the veterans (Halman, Broring, van Grinsven etc.). Yeah Naomi Halman is definitely our best player at the moment. She is doing very well in France and even held her own in the Euroleague (first backing up Mistie Bass and then starting at center). Really like her game and footwork.

Too bad that we have 2 of our biggest talents (Laura Cornelius and Emese Hof) playing for Miami right now. So they will miss these games.

Here is my preview article, although it focuses mostly on the format and not the product on the court.

Upset of the day. Holland beats Croatia 76-67 Shocked Very Happy
Zera Butter MVP of the game with 9 of her 23 pts in the final 5 min of the game Cool If only she went to the USA a couple years ago she could of gone to a good team. Amazing scorer and very hard to stop.

http://www.fibaeurope.com/season_2015.coid_xhkl58lQG62Qt6yeT-xn52.articleMode_on.html

Zellous only scored 6 pts in 18 minutes off the bench for Croatia

Sancho Lyttle back in the Spanish team (that stuffed Sweden), so they haven't switched to Ndour for good with their naturalised spot - unfortunately for Dream fans.

Decent effort from GB but lost in Montenegro. Probably the toughest game they'll face in the group, and need to bounce back against Italy on Wednesday night. Have to beat them at home, ideally by as much as possible, to have any chance of making it through.

We're virtually out after two games, which is rather disappointing. Would now have to win in Italy and beat Montenegro at home to have any chance at all. Shame no one besides Handy could hit a damn shot today.

Holland won in a very tight game. If they can manage to win in Croatie then they are in good position to qualify. Who would of thought in this group

When was the last time Great Britain scored 122 points in an international competition?

I continue to hate that if GB are playing in some tiny European outpost, I can invariably find and access a stream with a couple of clicks. If we're playing 200 miles north of me in my own country, not a chance in hell.

And @gbbasketball don't even bother replying to my messages asking politely about the possibility of webcasts.

Tough loss for Holland. Game at home against Estonia will be crucial. They have to win that one and hope Croatia loses against Estonia
