SNL skit last night about Presidental power. Obama's power pretty much limited to greeting WNBA champions at the White House.

uggh.

I saw one on family guy last night that was not nice at all but I still found it funny. It's just jokes so I don't take the negative mentions serious.

Another random WNBA mention - one that is definitely not worthy of its own thread:
Quote:
... Nets baller Kris Humphries marries Australian-born WNBA player Erin Phillips ...

Sports Jeopardy (online at crackle.com) had a WNBA category in the most recent episode. The 3 answers I remember were:

Coach that led Detroit Pistons to 2003 title

Retired WNBA player who just joined the San Antonio Spurs coaching staff

MVP Player who led the Houston Comets to the title in 1997

Someone answered correctly on the first two and there was a wrong answer on the last - Sheryl Swoopes - and no one else tried another answer.

They said it right. I must have been influenced by them adding "This former Pistons bad boy" or something like that to the question (or answer in Jeopardy terms).

Friday night I went to a comedy club in San Francisco. Comedian Jacob Sirof, the opening act, made a joke that the WNBA would be better served to get rid of the women and rebrand itself where the 'W' stands for White, and have Dirk Nowitzki vs. Pau Gasol. The rest of his set wasn't any better.

The Liberty were mentioned in a Jeopardy clue tonight. Who is Isiah Thomas was the correct response.

I'd say that's because the last one was not NBA related. The other 2 were probably more notable because they received more press coverage?

On ESPN's Around the Horn today, the WNBA got two separate mentions:

1) A question was posed as to whether winning the championship or a private concert by Prince was more memorable.

2) Kevin Blackestone used his face time to salute the retirement of Tameka Catchings (oops).

Why do the two things have to be in competition? I'm not sure all the players went to the concert.

Well, maybe Catch shouldn't fight it and go for that ATL GM job. Smile

I didn't hear the commenting, but Wilbon and that Muck Raker Korn mentioned the WNBA in their Happy Trails segment. A good thing I couldn't hear anything because the jerk on that show never has anything good to say about the W.

Umm, yeah. While I will admit that was an unfortunate outfit, the overwhleming misogyny in the headline and comments...

I mean, wtf is wrong with people.

Okay....how is this random? Razz

People got down on me for suggesting it might in Griner's DNA to be reckless, and here she is again. This time she's nip-slipping, obviously on purpose.

No wait.... she's not reckless. She's just a "free spirit". Well this is a whole lot of freedom.

I personally don't mind if her cause is to have equal rights for women in this regard, but I kinda wonder if Richie approves of this cause. Smile

On tonight's episode of Blackish, 10/21

Jack: "I don't want to go somewhere worse than hell. I've already been to a WNBA game.

I forget the start of the line "... WNBA... Nobody goes to those."

Cheap laughs. It's basically lazy writing. Nothing deep or clever about it, just playing on general assumptions and going for the low hanging fruit.

It's the type of writing I expect from my "Intro to Creative Writing" students at the beginning of the semester. By the end it gets them marked down.

There are several ways to look at this. If they hadn't heard of the W, they wouldn't be using it for jokes.

BG is not a good front for the W, sorry couldn't help myself Embarassed
