Looks like Washington is headed toward the lottery. Other teams are improving.

Lawson is right about the schedule. The W can do better.

Lawson's right about the schedule. It's not compressed this season(no Olympics, no World Championship), so I also don't understand why the have back-to-backs scheduled, and then they'll give teams a week off.

Random stat notes, as of Monday:

1) Weakness is obvious: -40 rebounds

2) Good 3 D (29.2%), +30 on fouls (+26 FT points)

3) Emma is a stud (news flash); 30/20 A/TO

4) Dolson is pretty good too (54.3% shooting, 90.3% from the line)

5) Latta regressing: 34% from two; 30/26 A/TO

6) Kara Lawson 32.1% shooting, 27.3% 3; 59/11 A/TO (off the charts good)

7) Why does Tayler Hill play? 33.3% but the most shots per 36 minutes on the team. 10/10 A/TO; 57.1% FT%

Cool The Natasha Cloud experiment may be ruined by bricks: 28.8% shooting

9) Kia Vaughn has played one game -- how many more wins (and more rebounds) is she worth? I've never been a huge fan, but she's at least an average WNBA center.

I don't think there is any way that the mystics will be a lottery team. At the half way point they are the third best team in the east and Saunders has shown that she will be a help. With Saunders here for the whole second half of the season and Vahn back I think the mystics will have a better record in the second half than the first. Chicago and New York are going to fight it out for first and second and the Mystics will be the third.
I think that the Sun and the Fever will battle for the last play-off spot and I think that it will come down to the last game of the season to decide that. Atlanta looks to be in trouble if Little's injury is more than another week. Even with her back they still have no point guard

LaToya Sanders finds her way back home, helping Mystics find their way

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/mystics/latoya-sanders-finds-her-way-back-home-helping-mystics-find-their-way/2015/07/23/aed3927e-30d2-11e5-8f36-18d1d501920d_story.html

Quote:
It was a long, hard decision, Sanders, 28, said about returning to the league. I was going back and forth about it for a long time. I felt it was time because I had a sense of confidence that I didnt have the past couple years to come back and play. I wanted to give it another shot. Im having a good time, and Im definitely glad I came to the Mystics.

Quote:
Sanderss reasons for not playing in the WNBA werent entirely financial. She took 2012 off from the WNBA to spend more time with her terminally ill father. In 2013, she decided to concentrate solely on playing in Turkey, both for Kayseri as well as the national team with whom she figures to earn a roster invitation for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The binding commitments with the national team precluded restarting her WNBA career until this season.

Quote:
That Sanders has been able to assimilate so soon and all but seamlessly to her new surroundings in the nations capital is directly attributable to living abroad for years, she said. It also helped that Sanders has been able to lean on Mystics point guard Ivory Latta, a close friend from when both played for the Tar Heels and Sanders went by her maiden name, Pringle.

Did not realize how banged-up this team is and playing with the injuries.

Tayler Hill the latest Mystics player to be bitten by injury bug

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/mystics/tayler-hill-the-latest-mystics-player-to-be-bitten-by-injury-bug/2015/08/27/371bdc76-4cf9-11e5-bfb9-9736d04fc8e4_story.html

Quote:
The Washington Mystics season-long injury misfortunes continued Thursday afternoon, leaving the status of one of their top three-point shooters in doubt for the immediate future after Tayler Hill sprained her right ankle during the late stages of practice.

Quote:
We have off days and people get hurt, Thibault said in disbelief following practice.

Quote:
Hartley has played double-digit minutes once during the past four games. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2014 WNBA draft was fourth on the Mystics in scoring last season.

Getting a little better every day, said Hartley, who was named to the WNBA all-rookie team. Theres good days, theres bad days.

With playoff berth on the line, Mystics losing streak comes at a bad time

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/mystics/with-playoff-berth-on-the-line-mystics-losing-streak-comes-at-a-bad-time/2015/09/07/16723878-5571-11e5-8bb1-b488d231bba2_story.html

Quote:
With three games left in the regular season, Washington needs one victory to secure a third straight postseason appearance. If Atlanta and Washington finish with the same record, the Dream claims the final spot based on the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Its like hanging over our heads, center Kia Vaughn said. We know thats what we need, and its starting to be just like the death of us mentally a little bit. As much as were trying and were so close, were so far because we cant grab it when we need to. This West Coast trip was hard, but it should be able to make us stronger mentally.

The Mystics are in a similar position as last year, when they did not clinch until the penultimate game. It took a 71-67 victory over the Connecticut Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena that was in doubt until the final seconds.

I wouldn't be surprised if Laimbeer lets WAS win on Friday - I'm sure he would much rather play WAS than ATL in the Playoffs....

well, if they win on Wed., they'll have home court throughout the play-offs. Likely means he'd rest Charles, Prince, etc. on Friday & Sunday thus giving lots of minutes to Warley, Rodgers, Wiggins & Wheeler.

He did that sort of thing in Detroit

Double teams frustrate Dolson

Dolsons disappointment was never higher than during Washingtons recent four-game road trip in which the Mystics were swept and she averaged 6.5 points and 3.8 rebounds while getting to the foul line one time.

It's something she probably hasn't faced much in the WNBA, so it's not surprising.

It is a little surprising..with Emma and Latta on the floor, that defenses would focus on Dolson. I would say it may mean that there's probably not enough offense starting..and maybe both Latta and Lawson need to start (when Lawson's healthy..) Or maybe just switching Lawson and Latta will help the offense in itself.
