Why are you discounting Gray?
Wake Forest is about as close to a mid major as a major conference gets, so maybe CHI should give her a look. |
No doubt, Wake is not a good team. Still, they face pretty good competition. Again, I would invite people to look at Hamby's numbers against good teams -- Notre Dame, Maryland, Duke, NC, Florida State... there is no drop-off. Only against NC State does she tail off a bit, but nothing terrible.

Now, look at Gray against good teams. Good game and OK game against USC. Terrible against Stanford and Baylor. She did have three 30+ point games against other Pac-12 teams, but consistency is an issue.

In the head-to-head game, Hamby had a big edge. I didn't see it, but from the box score it looks like Gray may have been in foul trouble.

Not saying Gray doesn't have talent, but she still has a lot to prove. Meanwhile, people keep insinuating that Hamby can't perform against good competition when the hard proof shows otherwise.

Mosqueda-Lewis, Stokes Could Be On Sun's Radar For WNBA Draft
Quote: |
But this time around, with Seattle picking first and Tulsa second, the Sun are in a situation that clearly will involve thought. And two players they likely will take a close look at are UConn's Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Kiah Stokes.
"I believe the consensus right now is that the two Connecticut players, because of the schedule they play and the fact they play for Geno [Auriemma], are in my mind considered first-rounders and perhaps top five picks," Dunn said. |
Dunn is already losing her sharpness going into retirement. Either that or she's trying to help IND out by convincing CON to burn a pick on Stokes.
Quote: |
"What I think is that there's a lot of research to be done," said Donovan, who will coach the Sun for a third season. "It certainly won't be as easy as it has been in the past. There is no clear 1 through 5. But I am glad we have a couple of picks [in the first round] and I am glad we have them early." |
Seems like she said almost exactly the same thing last year.
Quote: |
Seattle, which owns the first pick, is said to be thinking about a post player because of uncertainty surrounding the return of Lauren Jackson, the former MVP, who has missed the past two seasons with injuries. Those circumstances could have them focusing more on Duke's 6-3 center Elizabeth Williams or thinking about trading their pick to get an established post.
"Let's just say there is likely going to be some conversation about trades and leave it at that," Donovan said. "People are talking about Williams, who has improved every year. Isabelle Harrison at Tennessee [6-3] has attracted interest, too … But I am happy it's not our No. 1 this year. But I wouldn't count Lauren [Jackson] out yet." |

Last season on draft night, the Sun dealt Tina Charles to the New York Liberty for Stanford's Chiney Ogwumike, who went on the become league MVP. |

Of course UConn has a big disadvantage when it comes to strength of schedule. They don't play UConn.

She puts up decent rebounding numbers for someone listed as a G/F. Might have to give her a closer look during the North Carolina game.

UConn Women's Insider: KML, Stokes And Their WNBA Futures
Quote: |
"You need to be careful about how you judge a player in terms of their body type," said Lin Dunn, the former coach of the Indiana Fever and now a draft consultant for the team. "Let's not get too carried away trying to project what she may or may not be able to do at the next level. Here's the way I look at her: She was well-suited to help UConn win two championships. Now, there will be some questions about her ability to defend at the next level, but the fact she can score, really score, and is well-coached and has played in a tremendous system, is going to hold her in good stead in the draft.
"If she doesn't go in the top five, I will be stunned, absolutely stunned." |
Quote: |
"Stokes? Long and tall," Dunn said. "But this season is going to decide it all for her. Is she really the great player we all thought she'd be when she came out of high school in Iowa? Stefanie Dolson is gone and this is her opportunity to step in and assert herself as a big-time post player in UConn's system. She certainly has the athletic skill to do it. Maybe she's just been biding her time playing behind a very assertive player in Dolson. She has all the tools to be a great WNBA player." |
