Why can't we do some updated retro of this? WNBA marketing are you listening? Its a golden opportunity. Unless...you're saving it for the 20th or 25th anniversary season...

Either way you should be grateful for never having seen it.

Neither of them were WNBA ads. They were both Nike ads.

Yeah I kind of overlooked that. Wonder if Nike would be onboard with bringing that back or if they would license the concept to the W? |

doubtful of both considering Adidas is the W's official sponsor.
as to why Adidas can't do something similar, or anything at all, still remains a mystery |

So Nike baled and Adidas took up the slack? I don't know how it can get done or who needs to make deals with whom, all I know is they should get it done and bring this back. |

well i suppose the first thing to shout would be to bring back Nike as a sponsor. at this point in league history i don't know if that's necessarily a good idea for the players themselves as quite a few of them have sponsorship deals with Nike. if Nike was the league sponsor they'd have no real reason to pay players to wear and show off their shoes... the entire league would be doing it. so players, ok only certain ones but still, would lose out on another revenue stream.
but as we're talking about league stability as a whole... well, perhaps seeking Nike sponsorship again is reasonable considering how they jumped on the bandwagon at the start and continue to seek out not only W players but other female athletes, admittedly not as many or with as much money, as endorsers. and if Nike is promoting itself through commercials like those from the early days they're also promoting the league by extension.
or maybe Adidas could ask the league to work for its money and create, GOOD, adds featuring players wearing their stuff and air them throughout the year and not just during the summer during games. |

Those old commercials by Nike featured Nike athletes. Nike never was an official sponsor of the W. That being said, they could do something clever like that again.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "official sponsor" of the WNBA, but as far as I remember they have always had some kind of relationship, if I recall NBC games and ESPN games would mention Nike is a sponsor of the WNBA.
And here is quote from an article I found.
Nike, which has backed the Women's National Basketball Association since its launch in 1997, has signed a new multi-year marketing agreement with the league.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, or I'm misunderstanding the type of 'partnership" that existed between Nike and the WNBA.
