Just out of curiosity, whose team won? Charles Barkley says that you can chuck shots all night long and pad your points but the real stat that defines a post is rebounds. 14 to 8 |

Looks like Charles had McCoughtry's help and Paris had Spanou. Fair fight.

At this point there's no excuse for Courtney. She had a good season in Tulsa only because she lost a little bit of weight.Paris needs to develop her game or she'll be back on the bench playing 10 minutes per game.
Paris has too many weaknesses for a starting center:
No low post game
no mid-range jumpshot
poor finisher at the basket
poor ft shooter
poor pick & roll defender
poor defender in space(rotating)
poor defender at the basket
not consistant in getting back on defense
still not in shape
Paris's strength is rebounding, but she's still limited in that area of her game. She's not quick to the ball and can only get the rebounds that are in her vicinity.I'm a Courtney supporter, but I will not make excuses for her lack of self motivation.

Re Charles vs. Paris:
Charles is a WNBA MVP and National Team player. Paris isn't.
Charles is supposed to be better, and just because she outdid Paris doesn't mean Paris is a bad player.

Very good bounce back Rd 2 game from Paris. She went head to head with Larkins and helped led Istanbul univ to a win over Adana Aski 88-85.My favorite stat of the game is the 40 minutes.
Paris 23p 14r 11-18 fg 0-1 3pt 1-2ft 40 min(full game)
Johnson 21p 3r 3a 7-12 fg 1-3 3pt 4-4ft 37 min
Larkins 15p 9r 5-7 fg 5-7ft 25 min
January 13p 4r 5a 3-8 fg 1-3 3pt 4-5ft 34 min

Hmmmm, I dunno....the weight loss wasn't all that much, but yes, it certainly helped. I still think the CONFIDENCE the coach showed in starting Paris and giving her big minutes went a loooong way in boosting her contributions there....maybe even more than her improved fitness.
Courtney never really had The Perfectly Right Stuff (on paper) to be a dominant center. Yet, she DID it, in a program like Oklahoma, in a league like the Big 12. National Records, yadda yadda. I believe it's a case of a
kid--heavily skilled with some of the more intangible skills, like good skill in
body maneuvering in a tight low post game, excellent hands with passes in to her, etc.--who had the right nurturing and system to maximize her potential. And she flourished.
Now? Yes, I agree: she's GOT TO make every possible improvement she can to GROW her game (and fitness) to stay competitive. That's completely on her now. (I sometimes think Coale should get in her head a bit nowadays....who knows? Maybe she does)

Tulsa REALLY missed Riquana at that combo guard spot. She could relieve them both, or perhaps if Fred had gained some trust in Angel sooner, it could have been Riquana for Diggins, Angel for Sims.
Hopefully, this will not be an issue next summer. I'm praying for good health for everybody. |

Need Paris to get her FT to 70% or more. |
yes,a healthy R.williams will give the shock much needed backcourt depth.I can also see Tulsa trading Riquna & the #2 pick for a SF.One problem I had with Fred last season, was his decision not give Goodrich more of an opportunity.Angel had a solid rookie year and deserved at the very least 10 minutes per game to start the season. It's hard to develop as a PG if you're not getting playing time.
As for Courtney's Ft shooting.she shot 72% her rookie season,so she's more than capable of hitting 70%,if she puts in the work

Odyssey Sims would put that ball handling drill to shame, for sure.

Well, it would be nice to SEE her doing that drill. Do you know if she has pursued any promotional opportunities in addition to playing overseas? We can all support Odyssey without denigrating Skylar.

To me CP is a specialist. There are guys in the NBA collecting nice checks for years with a specialty. If rebounding is her "thing" then great! I would like to see add at least one more improvement to her set, and that is FT shooting. Tulsa left points on the line last summer and she was a big reason for it.

Yeah,it's all Paris will ever be.Her work ethic and discipline are embarrassing. If CP just took the time to develop her FT shooting,mid-range jumpshot and conditioning,it would be a great help to the Tulsa franchise.I remember on Draft day when Paris dropped to #7 .She told the interviewer,"I now know what I have to do and I'm gonna do it".5 years later, and I see no improvement. No real sense of urgency despite getting waived 5 times.satisfied with surviving when she could be thriving.Courtney should at least have some respect for her teammates and improve her conditioning. This is a team sport, courtney's lack of fitness is hurting the shock team.If I was Diggins or Sims I'd be pissed off.
Paris obviously does not have the discipline(nutrition) nor motivation(work ethic) to do it on her own.She should just hire a personal trainer and chef.Paris is destroying her quality of life, the Tulsa shock chances of making the playoffs and her finances.Paris lack of fitness has probably cost her 1 million dollars over the last 5 years.

Yeah you got players in the NBA that have a specialty but most of the time they are doing something else pretty good aswell. Like Reggie Evans he is probably the most efficient rebounder in the NBA but he is also in there because he is a tough player and defender. If he sucked on defense and the only thing he can do was rebound then he wouldnt get a lot of minutes or even minutes at all..
Paris sucks on defense but the only thing(besides her rebounding) she got going for her is that because of her size she is also difficult to guard
