I feel like it's odd giving it to a Sophomore.
Odd award in general .

In theory, shouldn't a 3rd overall pick (who was a multi-year AA in college) improve drastically from rookie to sophomore season especially when their rookie season is below average/expectations? |
This.^^
In Skyler's case, it's almost like, "Damn, we're glad you proved the haters wrong last season!" Rebounding UP to expectations after a bad rookie year doesn't really = MIP, imo. But. Regardless--she's got the award, and kudos to her for upping her game as much as she did. |
Originally, I thought this made sense, and then I read an analysis of the Kevin Love trade, which brought 2013 No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett to Minnesota after a very bad rookie season. The statistical analysts figured out that the odds are that Bennett will never be a star after such a dismal first year, as it's very predictive of future production.
So at least in the NBA, a bad first year usually leads to a bad career, even if you're the No. 1 overall pick.

Maybe it wouldn't have been such a big deal if people didn't hyper criticize her performance last year. Rookies were allowed to be rookies and learn at their own pace except for Diggins. Apparently she was supposed to be Chris Paul. To me it didn't matter where she was picked... She couldn't do anything about Tulsa picking her at 3.

It is weird... LoL cuz I can make an argument for Maya in this category too .
|
Well I dunno..... Maya last year barely should have been MVP and this year she made it more obvious. It's like she improved her MVP level. |
Soooo...I guess she's at Super Saiyan 2 now? |
