With Baylor concluding the WCBB season with a National Championship, fans of women's basketball now turn their attention to the WNBA.
So, with the WNBA season now close to beginning, I have some questions for all of you:
1. Which rookie will make the biggest impact for her team?
2. Which team will be the biggest surprise?
3. Which team will be the biggest disappointment?
4. Which First Team All-WNBA players will be back on the list this year?
5. Who will win the Eastern Conference?
6. Who will win the Western Conference?
7. Will the Mystics be more successful *without* Chamique?
8. Will the Sparks actually have a head coach?
9. Who will win the WNBA All-Star Game: the West or East?
10. Who will win the 2005 WNBA Championship?

I love how people say this about the Liberty EVERY year.

I got nothing better to do...
1. Which rookie will make the biggest impact for her team?
---I think both Tan White and Kendra Wecker will probably come into situations where they will be able to put up some points for their teams, so they are my best guesses.
2. Which team will be the biggest surprise?
---In order to be a surprise, people have to be down on you, and you outplay the expectations, or people are high on you, and you choke. My prediction is that one of the two finalists from last season will not make the playoffs this season, and that will be the biggest surprise.
3. Which team will be the biggest disappointment?
---I think Mystic fans will be disappointed with how their team progresses in life after Mique. My prediction is that they stay more or less in the same spot, the 4th spot in the playoffs.
4. Which First Team All-WNBA players will be back on the list this year?
--- Leslie is a staple. DT will quickly become one barring injury. It's hard to make any promises in terms of forwards in the league because there are just so many superstars at the forward spot. Sheryl, LJ, Swin, Catch, Keesh, and Mique for starters, not to mention Tangela Smith, who may come into her own as likely the primary scoring option for the Charlotte club. Tina's case will be hurt with missing time due to pregnancy. At the forward spot, you should feel lucky to make even the second team in this league.
5. Who will win the Eastern Conference?
---My very not bold prediction is that Charlotte will win. I'm looking for Staley to go out this year on top and become a full time coach. Detroit will still manage a mental block against the Sting, which will cost them the Conference Championship.
6. Who will win the Western Conference?
---It's difficult to go against the Sparks. If Mique is happy, that is a huge plus to their run back at the title.
7. Will the Mystics be more successful *without* Chamique?
---I think that the East is a rough place to really predict where one will end up, so I am predicting that the Mystics will stay right where they are at. I still don't see them as having progressed past the Sun - seemingly the class of the East (predraft), and the Sting seem to have surpassed most of the East, if not all with their pickups, but you must always keep Detroit in the back of your mind.
8. Will the Sparks actually have a head coach?
---It's like a requirement! Who? Coop is the only guess I have, and it's probably a bad one.
9. Who will win the WNBA All-Star Game: the West or East?
---Lisa, Lo-Jack, Sheryl, DT, and Sue Bird will look like a pretty unbeatable starting lineup. Ruth, Swin, Keesh, Whalen and Staley doesn't look too shabby, but will lack scoring punch and a true boards-woman until Ford pops in off the bench to mix things up. Somehow Mique is gonna end up getting injured, unless she opts not to play, and my guess is that Ford will be at the root of the injury. Can't wait to see Beard as an All-Star!
10. Who will win the 2005 WNBA Championship?
---Out of Principle, I am not allowed to pick the Sparks, no matter how talented they look. Given that I took Charlotte in the East, I will take them as avenging their loss in the finals in 2001 with Feaster reigning down 3s on them, and Tan remembering exactly who her number 1 enemy is... not to mention, Staley will teach the Tease what big time is all about.

Nah. Sheri Sam is a big, ticking chemistry time bomb Now that I've said it, watch her lead Charlotte to glory. |

I look at coaching first, which means Indy and Charlotte are out of the running.

Yep, count me in on the "anti-Charlotte" band wagon. I still don't see how they move past the other teams in the East.
I have to think Detroit will be back this year, unfortunately.

Trudi Lacey can get the pieces but is incapable of putting the puzzle together. I think Charlotte is out in the first round of playoffs. |

If they can get another outside shooter and stay healthy, they'll be a threat.
